Happy Feast Day Saint Mariana de Jesus de Paredes “The Lily of Quito"
1618-1645 Feast Day: May 26 Patronage: Ecuador, The Americas, bodily ills, loss of parents, those rejected from religious orders, the sick and sickness Saint Mariana was born to noble parents and the first person to be canonized from Ecuador. She was a third order Franciscan, a mystic who practiced intense mortifications and survived primarily on the Eucharist at daily Mass. She was known to be a healer by making the sign of the cross and sprinkling holy water on the sick. She even restored a dead woman to life. St. Mariana gave her life while caring for plague victims and is called the “Lily of Quito” because after her death a lily sprouted from her blood.
