the fall I WAKE UP IN THE CITY
Salford Music Festival
20th-23rd September, at venues across Salford.
Now in it's 3rd year, the Salford Music Festival showcases solo artists and bands from across Salford (and some from further afield this year) and this year it was bigger than ever before with over 200 acts playing over the 4 day event.
After responding to a call for volunteer photographers I was delighted to be chosen to cover both events held at The Lowry Studio theatre and even more so because Friday night's headliner was Karima Francis, an incredible singer/songwriter that I had wanted to see live for quite sometime.
The event provided a great opportunity for the music lovers of Salford and Manchester to get to see some fantastic homegrown talent and with many venues across Salford hosting events The Salford Music Festival really did bring music as close to your doorstep as possible.
Throughout the event it was rumoured that there would be a special guest appearance during the Saturday night finale and after much speculation the the addition of a red bass on stage it was finally revealed as Peter Hook took to the stage to play out a set which included the Joy Division track "Love will Tear Us Apart" with the festival organiser Ed Blaney.
Not only did The Salford Music Festival introduce me to some brilliant new music I also met some amazing people, I'm already looking forward to next year!
