"where are we going?" eden asked her father as she emerged outside, and he presented her with a blindfold that she at first, pulled away from. "on a journey, a surprise, my sweet girl." her eyes softened, kindness from her father was few and far between and in truth, she craved that affection from the man because he offered it to her in such rare snippets. she'd tried her whole life, to be a daughter worthy of his affection, to be something for him to be proud of, but no matter what she was to do he would find and pick fault. when she was a child it was a stutter and as an adult, it was everything. from her lack of suitor to the fact she'd stick her head in a book and forget the day, that she preferred baking with the maids than partaking in afternoon tea with ladies.
eden sat in the carriage for hours, her eyes covered, though at some point she fell asleep only to awake with hands that felt like steel gripping her upper arms. "father?" no response. "father?!" a panic quickly laced in to her and yet, she could've pulled hard enough to break her arms, that grip on her was not about to budge. she was being dragged, her feet and limbs twisting and kicking, struggling until she was thrown to the ground. "what's happening- my father he's-" the familiar voice interjected. "my daughter." the blindfold was pulled and the sight was... well she was lost for words. fae. fae that they'd only heard of in stories, they were real. real and utterly... intoxicating, terrifying. these beings were above them, in strength, in everything. "my daughter, in exchange for my peace." her eyes found her fathers and all she found was heartbreak. he didn't care, he had never cared. "you're a monster." was the only thing she seethed at her father. what more was there to say? his choice was made. whatever this fae lord needed with her, she had no idea but she looked to another girl, another human girl just like her on the floor, and she scrambled to her, her hands instantly finding the girl and holding their hands together tightly. "for peace." agreed the fae upon a throne, his voice was dark, menacing. "i suggest you leave, human, before you witness your daughters change."
"it'll be okay, we're going to be okay." eden was turned to the other girl, the woman just like her, in this situation. "it'll be okay, we have each other okay? i wont leave i wont go anywhere without y-" eden was pulled, forced away from her. "let go of me! let go!" she screeched, kicked, tried to hit. it was nothing to them. "put her in the cauldron." the fae demanded and his people, did as told. they lifted eden up, over this thing, this huge black thing and she was sure, it couldn't be anything, just heat right? but her anger... it burned, her desire to pull away, to hold to that girl again. they dropped her. into this cauldron, this endless thing.
eden didn't know how long it'd been, how much time had passed... but she felt earth beneath her, soil and dirt. something under her fingers, her body that felt... why did everything hurt? everything was loud. so loud. she coiled, they'd dumped her out of the cauldron and eden wasn't... the same girl, her ears, that'd been so little now elongated, pointed, otherworldly. she was just like them now.
