Bae! You know how much I love Mary (and you for that matter) so thank you, sweetheart!
Mary couldn't help it. Her eyes were wide with surprise, but her lips were curved in a genuinely amused smile. "I'm sorry if it's boring, Lilith, but you can make up your own story."
Lilith put down the piece of chalk and clapped her hands clean, stared back at the “B-” she had written on the far right of the board.
"Boring? I said nothing of the sort. How very like you, Ms Wardwell, to assume you're being harshly judged right off the bat."
"Well, aren't you?"
"Only in the most objective way. You forget, my dear, Hell is no mere ‘story’ to me. And while I admire your handiwork, there are a few structural issues. This, for instance," she flourished a hand in the area of the chalkboard which Mary had designated 'Third Circle', “is far too small. Given that the region houses both the Endless Well of Leviathan and the entire range of Cretakrote’s Mountains, it needs to be at least twice as large."
Mary attempted to deflect the criticism, not wanting to bear it herself: "I only followed Dante's diagram, and I'm certain I scaled it correctly!" She'd measured it with the full capability of her geometry set.
"Then that was your folly. Dante is hardly an expert on the geography of Hell, he never even ventured beyond the First Circle."
"So he was there!" Mary's round eyes gleamed with excitement. "I just knew it!"
"Well, to a fashion." Lilith's face made no pretense of caring about the story, but Mary's eagerness had her telling it anyway. "He had a patron, you see, a demon who fancied himself a connoisseur of mortal literature. And in exchange for a wealth of privately-commissioned pieces, the demon agreed to take Dante to Hell. As a tourist. A sort of writers’ retreat, I suppose."
Mary was barely blinking. "So why couldn’t he get see more than the First Circle?”
"Hell has its rules. Even a member of the Infernal Court cannot simply give a mortal a guided tour of Hell without repercussion. So the demon locked Dante in his manor, showing him artifacts from the depths, but only introducing him to the full geography via stories and amateur sketches. All loose approximations."
"I see..." Mary was clearly split between fascination and disappointment.
"He's back there now, of course," Lilith added flippantly.
"What? Why?"
"The Dark Lord did not especially appreciate the countless inaccuracies in Dante's work. He felt it an insult to the realm he had so carefully and brutally curated."
"So Dante really was damned to Hell. And... what was his punishment?"
Lilith's lips briefly twitched in amusement. "Why, exactly what you've been doing: it is his task, for all eternity, to attempt to correctly depict a map of the Nine Circles. Only, not with chalk, but a chisel. And fifty feet high."

Send 🌸 for three things my muse likes about yours.
He likes her kindness. She has a heart of Gold and he finds it endearing.
How she makes tea for him. It’s the perfect blend and it leaves his stomach and chest feeling warm.
How intelligent she is. He could listen to her speak for hours about any given topic, but she is so wonderfully smart. It’s always interesting and refreshing to converse with her.

Send 🌸 for three things my muse likes about yours.
1. That’s she’s genuinely intelligent.
“She’s intelligent, and I don’t just mean she’s smart enough to read books and...pass on some level of knowledge to the idiotic student body of Baxter High. I mean real and actual intelligence, the ability to read, research and then...interpret, apply it, in her own unique way. Mary thinks for herself, without having the world tell her what she should be thinking. When she has a conversation, it’s not simply...regurgitating facts. They’re her own conclusions, opinions...and they’re usually surprisingly insightful”
2. Her sexual choices/her relationship choices
“Perhaps by the standards of mortal society, and, for that matter even many witch societies too, Mary isn’t...exactly the norm, she doesn’t really follow the...expectations for a woman of her age, and appearance. Yet, she hasn’t let that push her into something she doesn’t want. That’s something that’s shockingly rare...even in Hell. Mary is a virgin, yes, and at her age, the world would be quick to condemn her for that, mock her, label her....it would be easier I’m sure if she’d consummated relationships, gotten married...all before she was ready, simply because society demanded it. But she hasn’t allowed herself to be forced to...submit. She’s kept her choices, her freedom”
3. Her sense of style
“There were things in her wardrobe that were...discarded to the back of the cupboard and others that were...altered, yes, but for the most part there wasn’t much I had to add. But as for her home and her office....the painting, the fixtures, the books and colours, the mirrors, in fact her entire aesthetic wasn’t something I had to change at all. It’s....different, something that rests between worlds, dark and light, twisted and normal, grotesque and beautiful....I really love it. Personally, I think it shows there’s more layers to Mary Wardwell than most people choose to see. She’s not quite as...predictable as others think she is. She doesn’t really fit in a box”

Ahhh, thank you, Tam!
Please choose two from 1,2,5,6.
Robert! The kids are taking down their locker decorations for the summer and one of the students had a whole box of those bat decorations you hang from the ceiling for Halloween! I don’t remember last Halloween, or if I decorated for it, but you should come by sometime at night to my classroom! We can decorate it with bats! It would be cute. We can name them! I’ll name one Robert Jr, just for you! — mary w. 🌿
Mary.
You are wonderfully charming. It would be my pleasure to aid you with that. Perhaps this coming evening? I’m happy to have one named after me, if we can put him near another that we name after you.
Yours
