Underminig Toxic Masculinity

I just don’t know how to NOT make laughs out of whatever is going on. Even when it’s a shit show and it’s an awkward laugh... life is really short to not try our best to enjoy it anyway...

Tonight I went out to dance with my homegirl and the patrons, and one took me aside to thank me for showing up consistently and saving lives. She literally said... thank u for keeping us alive and safe in the middle of the night while we’re vulnerable. and then when we wake up, these hilarious and sometimes philosophical reckonings. Best hangover remedy.

It all felt so symbiotic that I could almost forget the existential dread of America... everything besides qtpoc community.

I had a gorgeous night at my bar tonight. Just being myself and letting people appreciate me on the floor, not from a booth. Many women touched my butt.

I have a lot of thoughts about masc-femme dynamics too, because my beloved friends are mostly femmes... and people always assume coupling when we run through the nights together. But yo, I don’t sleep with my friends since I really need things to stay simple. And for some reason people just assume that when a masc person and a femme person are close that there’s something more going on. That is patriarchy right there btw.

One of my newer colleagues informed me that I’m an intimidating figure, and in response I got horizontal on the pool table, belly exposed and explained that this is a product of heteropatriarchal BULLSHiT and every day I’m trying hard to reconfigure what vulnerable masculinity could be for the children of the future. Since I wish I had those models growing up, but I don’t, so me and my friends are building them in public space.

E got on the table right after, and we just chatted out loud about what it looks like to just show up for each other, and for these patrons year after year. And really that integrity is an inside job that requires some humility first. That and intentionality about dissolving obsolete sensibilities around love gender expression and community practice.

2019 is already so culturally productive, I feel like I’m earning a vacation.

Got a lot of love last night at the gathering, for my ongoing IG bromance with E. I dunno why it’s so remarkable when masculine folks are openly loving with each other in the dyke space. destroying toxic masculinity starts by undermining it with affection in your immediate circles... this guy is the kinda sibling I wish I had when I was growing up... blessed we found each other. That’s my Sunday zaddy!
