Now that school is out for summer and I turned in (and also passed!) my graduation portfolio, I figured it was time to post these drawings I did for my Advanced Drawing course for the Fall 2015 semester. Please full view! (I apologize if these are still hard to see. They are all 22 x 30 inches in size irl)
The goal for this project was to take a famous artist’s painting composition and try to incorporate your own subject matter or spin onto it. I decided to go with Rococo era art and chose two compositions [The Shepherdess and Cephalus and Procris] from Jean-Honore Fragonard (1732-1806) and one composition [Le Sommeil de Vénus] from Francois Boucher (1730-1770). One of my dreams out of college is to illustrate children’s books so I decided to pic fairytales as my theme; namely Snow White, Little Mermaid and Alice in Wonderland (in that order). I tried to incorporate elements from the “original” stories (as opposed to Disney versions and such). For the sake of my graduation portfolio, I decided to title this series Daughters of Deception.
It’s all done in compressed and vine charcoal with some light red prismacolor colored pencil in some areas.
