Awesome Thing #18 - Ed’s Easy Diner
I’ve been away from this blog for a while - but I’ve spent most of that time either at Ed’s Easy Diner, or wishing I was at Ed’s Easy Diner.
As a wheat-intolerant person (grr, that wheat comes over here - is all our carbs - should go back where it came from) - I have fallen out of love with American diner style food. Everything is served with bread, in bread, or coated in bread. When I last went to TGI Friday’s the only thing on the menu that I could digest was the chicken caesar salad - after I picked out all the croutons.
Imagine my shock, then, when I found out that Ed’s Easy Diner did a full gluten free menu (and I mean full, not one pizza that can be defrosted on request). Having scorned the hot dogs and burgers that I could never order, I was suddenly presented with a plethora of American style treats.
The service at Ed’s is, I would say, better than you’d get in most places in London, and on a par with what you would get in any other city. There’s always a smile, and the waiters are happy to offer me the gluten free menu.
The food is incredible. Maybe it’s just because I hadn’t had a hot dog in five years, but I swear their slick dog is probably the best thing I’ve ever eaten. They do this amazing and mysterious cheese sauce and over my last few visits I have managed to order it on pretty much all my food.
They also do an app where you can get loads of points to spend on your next visit (I have seven pounds worth and, hoo boy, am i excited!)
Basically, Ed’s Easy Diner is a chain restaurant that many people may find generic and a little dull - but the fact that they’ve catered so well for my lame dietary requirements means they’ve hit the top spot on my list of favorite places to eat!
