If this is how 7th graders write for school assignments now, I'm afraid. Nice enthusiasm, but my brain did not flow with such a disjointed writing style. I swear we wrote more coherently than this in 7th grade.

no you cant. you can tell when people are bad at bs-ing their paper. i didn't even read the sparknotes and i barely skimmed the Wikipedia and you gave me an A. you kneel before my throne unaware that it was born of lies

The funny thing is that I can still respect my teachers for giving me good grades on my essays, because I know that the point was teaching me to articulate, organize, and express my thoughts in an effective manner. What I don't respect is the teacher who thought we'd get anything out of the daily pop quizzes to ensure we read novel chapters every night. You KNOW it's more important for me to analyze story themes than to know what the mysterious specter left on the floor! Or what color the object the protagonist found on the ground! I DO NOT WANT to read those classic novels! In fact, those taught me to STOP being a bookworm! I burned out on reading and vowed to never read novels for fun ever again. Just let me ace the essays on my tests and term papers, like you know I'll do, because I know how to structure my writing. We all know that's what we're really here for. I don't give a damn about the protagonists of those "classic" novels.

Recently, I heard that reading education had changed from recognizing phonetic symbols and sounding out words, to inferring what a new word might be from the context clues of accompanying pictures and other previously recognized words??????? What??????

I can't stop thinking about all the fantasy and scifi novels I read as a kid, especially during elementary and Jr high. Those genres make up so many names, it's an inside joke now.

I once read a book where the alien was named Tsynq Yr (because the alien had possessed an Earth skunk). How will kids get that joke without being able to sound out new words????

How will they read fantasy genre's word salad names??? How will they learn load words from other languages??? Old books with words rarely used in modern conversation????????? Our alphabet is phonetic so you can learn new words on your own! This whole inference learning is a terrible idea, and I could barely believe it's been going on so long.
