Robin Hood’s Oak Sherwood Forest, England 1908

The Major Oak in December 2006 The Major Oak is a large English oak (Quercus robur) near the village of Edwinstowe in the midst of Sherwood Forest, Nottinghamshire, England. According to local folklore, it was Robin Hood's shelter where he and his merry men slept. It weighs an estimated 23 tons, has a girth of 33 feet (10 metres), a canopy of 92 feet (28 metres), and is about 800–1000 years old. In a 2002 survey, it was voted "Britain's favourite tree". In 2014 it was voted 'England's Tree of the Year' by a public poll by the Woodland Trust.

Legend has it Robin Hood and Maid Marion married here. Edwinstowe is one of the nicest little towns I have ever visited. Lots of niche shops, cafes and a few pubs. There is a beautiful cricket ground close by and the Major Oak in Sherwood Forest. All the best Tim

You will find this statue of Robin Hood and Maid Marian on Edwinstowe High St.  There is a lovely cake shop within a hundred yards of this statue and a bench to sit and eat it on, by this statue.

Robin Hood’s village is next to Sherwood Forest and is called Edwinstowe and they fully embrace that association. You can acutally walk from the edge of Sherwood Forest into Edwinstowe, which is what I did. It’s a very small town/village and it doesn’t take long until you’re on the main street.
