The first thing that Cloud consciously realized after he woke was the pounding migraine his brain had decided to give him. Sunlight filtered in from the window, a small gap in the curtains cascading its light across the bed and over his eyes. A groan slipped past bruised and chapped lips as he opened his eyes, only to grimace as the light made his headache worse.

Turning his head he moved to throw his arm over his face, only to pause at how heavy his arm was, as if there was a weight on it. Squinting, Cloud relaxed at seeing it was Charity, a carefully shifting to raise his other hand, scrubbing at his face as he wondered how much he had to drink, as it was hard to recall what had happened the night before; it wasn’t too often he drank enough to black out.

The feeling of a cool metal band against his face had the blonde freeze again, and slowly open his eyes to look at the ring resting upon his finger, glittering slightly in the sunlight.
