FLASHBACK:  Newly Described Fish Species: 2016 Deepwater Exploration of the Marianas 

While exploring a seamount in the process of being subducted under the Marianas Plate during the 2016 Deepwater Exploration of the Marianas expedition, the team made an exciting discovery: This an undescribed species of Pachycara (or “eelpout”), an abyssal fish genus of the family Zoarcidae.
