misconception
it has come to my attention there exists a subset of reenactors who go around renaissance faires "infecting" bystanders with the Plague. i wish to thank these heroes for their service
yes this can come in the form of dressing up as a pack of rats and offering people "Congratulations! You've Contracted The Black Death" hand stamps, but consider also:
walking around asking people if they want to pet your rat (plushie)
going in character as a fur trader carting around a wagon full of exotic wares at competitive prices
handing people a business card containing only the printed image of a flea (and on the back, the text "uh-oh!")
cosplaying as a giant bacterium
*hands you my business card* it contains a single drawing of a flea
*instinctively you flip it over searching for information*
Beautiful gorgeous creature of the day is a friendly squid
So, listen, I'm not usually the "did a squid write this" guy, but this article is about how these massive predators aren't dangerous and also aren't very nutritious, so I really gotta wonder about this one
Ocean announcement:
dont worry about it
Squid is made for hugging. Let squid hug baby, tentacled good for hug baby…
the modern specimen of a coelacanth that revealed they were not extinct was allegedly found by marjorie courtenay-latimer on dec 22nd, which may be timely for fishmas
By Fod, you're right ... we thought she was dead but she came back ...
you spin me right round baby right round like a (fossil) record baby

#fish is my biggest hobby… and my greatest fear.
google's useless. tumblr tell me something fun about cuttlefish idegafanymore
Loving the notes:
as with octopodes, cuttlefish have donut shaped brains. the esophagus passes through the center, which is why they straight up die if they try to swallow anything too big! stretched out the brain :(
cuttlefish are filled with love, as demonstrated by their 3 hearts
but they are also filled with venom. good for them!
oh and also blue-green blood. yes they have teal blood, i love that for them
smaller male cuttlefish will disguise themselves as female in order to mate with females who are guarded by large males. sometimes they even use fake egg sacs as props. let's hear it for transfem lesbian cuttlefish!
btw their eggs look like boba, which is why mermaids add them to beverages
their pupils look like this:
they have an internal shell called the "cuttlebone." (it is not an actual bone, as cuttlefish don't have bones.) they use it to control buoyancy, and it's freaky:
multiple people replied with "cuttlefish are fish." they're not. they! are! mollusks!
and of course by far the most important cuttlefish fact, they change color for hunting, camouflage, and disguise purposes.
say thank you to our beautiful rainbow murder mollusks!!!
I love contemplating how actually scary this is. Nothing in horror movies affects me anymore but I get the most wonderful chills from the idea of these beautiful, haunting, mindless things just hovering in this murky water like a minefield for anyone foolish enough to go swimming or unlucky enough to fall in. How it’s still not as bad as being a fish small enough for them to paralyze and consume. How they regularly paralyze and consume fish but evolved before anything like a fish ever existed. A fish is such a complex creature that can see and think and navigate and be afraid but sometimes it touches these brainless, boneless, ghostly things that were just already there, millions of years sooner, and it dies and it never understands why that is. The thing that killed it and ate it doesn’t know either, it doesn’t know anything. It doesn’t have enough of a brain to even realize it has killed and eaten something. Some of its cells simply fired little harpoons into the cells of the other thing, and squirted deadly chemicals into them, and hauled up the paralyzed body to digest it. It’s a spider’s web without a spider but it still fills things with venom and eats them. :)
I cannot tell you how much I appreciate that this video doesn't have any obnoxious music or sound effects. Just OG sound of water and silence.
cosmic horror for fish
Kofi request, a yellowfin tuna for a tuna lover!
Might be one of my favourite fish I've painted
