The sounds of distant engines sound like the moans and calls of the large shapes I imagine lumber down my neighborhood’s streets at night when we’re all asleep. They shuffle noiselessly, moving forward and forward without fail, cool fog swirling around their long limbs and empty faces as they make their way along the pavement.  Long, wispy fingers trail along the street, rasping softly on the rough surface. Sometimes they’ll brush against something that rattles or snaps, the noise startling those who are still stubbornly awake and slipping into the dreams of those who are not. None the wiser we rest peacefully, shutters closed against the reality of night and what roams our land.
