Top 5 songs to drive to.

So my list is kind of…eclectic? I spent a lot of time thinking and was finally able to narrow it down to 5. 

Storytime! I’m a huge Iron Man fan (surprise?) and as such, I’ve done some pretty nutty things when it comes to my favorite Avenger. Probably the nuttiest thing I’ve gone and done is buy an Audi. I’ll never own an R8 (one can always dream), but I love my little car well enough and she’s pretty damn fast. And one of the songs I love listening to while driving is from the Iron Man soundtrack. I sometimes get carried away an inch toward triple digits on the speedometer when this one comes on. Oops? I have yet to be pulled over for speeding, thankfully.

Gwyneth has a whole playlist with just about every single song she’s ever sung in public saved on my phone. This one gets played frequently, particularly when I’m in a good mood. Second place was “Singin’ in the Rain” which can be found below the video.

Over the last several months I’ve fallen head over heels for Miss Eliza Jane. I was really happy to discover that she sings and plays guitar. Her playlist is nowhere near as extensive as Gwyneth’s but her tunes are still amazing, especially the ones she’s composed herself. The live video below is still my favorite, even if it is a couple of covers. Bonus song beneath is one of her own.

This has been one of my favorite songs ever since I heard it for the first time in the movie Martian Child. I’ve been a space nerd all my life and singing this one at the top of my lungs in the middle of the night with the moonroof open is such a joy.

If you don’t have this song on your jams, you are wrong. Especially if you go on a roadtrip with friends. Classic classic classic and SO MUCH FUN.

For your ask meme: Victoria Gates

* why i like them: She is an epic, flawless HBIC

* why i don’t: I guess she was a little irritating in her first few episodes? Even though I still loved her. Tbh, I loved her from the moment, her character description was announced (which probably had something to do with my love of Jean Innocent and Gates’s character/role  similarities.)

* favorite episode/scene: I liked it when we met her sister. (idk what that episode was.) And when she and Castle temporarily bonded over that trashy “Real Housewives” knockoff

* favorite season/movie/arc: Season 5

* favorite line:  “If my mother drops by you can call her ‘Ma'am,’ call me ‘Sir’ or ‘Captain’

* otp: We never really got much in canon, so I have to go with my crossover  crack ships. I really like the idea of Gates in relationships with other epic police authority figures. So my favorites are Gates/Tommy Gregson (Elementary) and Gates/Jean Innocent (Lewis).

* favorite platonic relationships: Beckett, Esposito

* head canon: She actually doesn’t mind being called “Iron Gates.” She would rather be feared and respected than loved, and it’s a  hell of a nickname.

* unpopular opinion: I think she was a more interesting character and a better captain than Montgomery, and as happy as I am that Beckett has been promoted, I’m still annoyed that we never get to see Gates anymore ( a guest-star episode never would have hurt anyone).

For your massive Gill & Julie fic - 4, 13, and 15

4. What's your favorite line of dialogue?

Presuming you mean One Time Thing, since it is by far the most massive. I just re-read so I could remember all the dialogue and answer this question (I forgot how long that many words takes, lol), but I really needn’t have, because my favourite dialogue is actually right there in chapter 1. It’s a tie between "Well think about it now, Sweaty in Leather. Better start wriggling." and 'The Lesbian Victory of WPC Dodson' - I think jokey bits always resonate with my as ‘favourite dialogue’ moments, really, especially between these two. I love it when they give me snappy replies - which is what the best ones feel like, like the characters are just piping up in my head and saying them aloud.

13. What music did you listen to, if any, to get in the mood for writing this story? Or if you didn't listen to anything, what do you think readers should listen to to accompany us while reading?

Ha. Hahaha. I mean, I wrote this thing over the course of a literal year, so like, a lot? I don’t always listen to music while writing - sometimes I need to because outside noises bother me, sometimes I find it distracting and have to have silence, and I often don’t know which until I’ve tried it both ways a half a dozen times. Also while I’m writing I associate damn near everything with the pairing I’m writing about, but for specifics, probably Hozier’s Like Real People Do, Bear’s Den’s entire Islands album, and Bastille’s Flaws, especially the acoustic version (I kind of like to imagine Julie having an acoustic guitar stuffed in the back of a cupboard that she can be tempted to get out at parties, although that’s probably more of an aside because you’d have to flip the you’s/I’s in this song for this to be applicable)

15. What did you learn from writing this fic?

A lot about what my post s4 headcanon is. I finally sorted out how I thought Gill felt about her retirement, I found a way to tweak my headcanon to make it resonate with the events of the season, and now feel like I have a solid basis for any future fics I might want to write about them. Also I learned that Julie likes being bossed around. Who knew.
