Remember when Gemma Chamberpot was thrown out a plane in vol15? And how the flight attendant said she failed 'them' or something? I always wondered who 'they' were. Its a shame to see the game ending since there were potential storylines that could've been picked up. This game is so underrated.
I believe it was hinting at the Committee of Vigilance? She might have been working for them.
Ah yes, yet another arc that probably could have been wrapped up better if they had the time.
I feel so bad but I actually liked Blaise's end? I feel she got redeemed, she acted kinda shitty to Jeremy while she was confused about everything, and her getting her own chance to make up for it on her terms was nice. I also ship RedChen simply because I felt it was better for both Jeremy and Amy? Having that stability was good for both of them. I think the fandom does tend to slide over the bad traits of our faves sometimes. It's hard to find critical fans in the small fandom I guess.
Firstly, please please don’t feel bad because everyone’s entitled to their own opinion, especially if it’s not harming anyone! Different people will definitely interpret content in different ways and have different reactions. That’s the whole point of literature! :)
Your points are all definitely valid, and I do agree with a lot of them! But for me, Blaise’s death was unnecessary. We all knew she was a hero. I don’t think anyone of us ever doubted that she was a righteous person (even if she tended to bend the rules a bit). Her killing Kolo might not have been the right decision, but it never influenced how we thought of her as a moral character. Although she was “redeemed” in the eyes of the city/law for her sacrifice in the finale, it was never necessary for us to see that part of her (as the audience) since it was never in doubt in the first place.
What was in doubt was her capacity to love and have an actual healthy relationship. She pushed Jeremy away because she was terrified of admitting to herself that she was falling in love. And then they were both too proud to discuss their problems like proper adults. Instead of trying to fix things, Jeremy runs away. And while I agree that Redchen’s the more stable/safer relationship, I agree with Amy even more - she shouldn’t be the rebound girl (Jeremy should have properly ended things with Blaise first before pursuing another relationship).
Like you, I loved the ending in how she was able to work through her problems and fears herself, and smile even in the face of instant rejection. But her dying means that she’ll never be able to apply her new insights. I’m just a hugely disappointed by the aspect of unexplored potential. I really wanted to see Blaise happy with someone who cares enough for her to stay by her side. Her entire life was such an angst-fest that she definitely deserved it.
Plot-wise, it was also “the easy way out”. A simple means to wrap up loose ends, as the implication that Blaise was celebrated in death would have been better than her survival in prison. We’ll never see Blaise deal with the consequences of her actions, which would have lead to an interesting character-building arc in regards to repentance, as well as creative ways to perhaps shorten her sentence/get her out of jail.
But I guess with the limitations of the finale, it was the most efficient way to grant her story arc gratification. On an emotional level, I hate it… but logistically, I can see how they didn’t have too many options.
Hey! Do you have a recap of the game finale? I missed it by a week and it's not on NA anymore.. :(
Sorry dear, it’s been so long that I don’t remember it well enough to give you a great summary :(
You can always check out the Cause of Death Wikia. They don’t have the chapter summaries, but if you check on individual characters, they’ve mostly been updated with what happens to them. I’ve also most a brief character summary list here.
If you’ve got specific questions on anything you see, definitely feel free to ask!
I see you're just posting normal stuff now. How are you feeling after the end of Cause of Death? I loved it and now it's gone....
Ahh sorry about that! I accidentally clicked the wrong button on tumblr mobile - all that stuff was supposed to go to my personal blog! Sorry again!
As to how I’m feeling after the end? It’s weird because it’s been long enough that I’m reasonably not devastated about it every day, but I’m also an unreasonably sentimental person so whenever I think about how much I loved the game, a fresh jolt of what feels heavily of nostalgia (with a hint of regret? loss?) goes through me.
How about you, Anon? How’re you feeling, looking back?
PLEASE HELP I CANT GET ANY EPISODES/RE-DOWLOAD THE GAME Please summarize what happened to all of them? Is maltara still together? Blaise died?! Fill me in please I'm begging you I love you
Yikes! Okay um I have no clue where you left off so I’m just going to briefly summarize what happened to all the main characters.
Mal and Natara: They are still together, yes. And Natara’s pregnant! With a boy, I believe? They named him Blaise in honour of, well, Blaise. (If nothing horrible happened, the baby would have been born by now!)
Blaise: She had an epiphany or something that broke her out of her funk, realized she was in love with Jeremy, and went to tell him. But then found out he was already seeing Amy :( When they got back to San Fran, she turned herself in for killing Kolo on the rooftop all those volumes ago, and got a life sentence. Then she broke out of jail to help the team in the final battle. Then a huge amount of the Nightmare drug was sent up into a helicopter by the Firstborn to be sprayed on the entire city. So she got on that helicopter and blew it up to save the city… with herself in it. Died a martyr and a hero :’(
Jeremy: Pretty much the same. Eh.
Amy: Now this is actually pretty interesting. There’s this choice that you, as the player, get to make when Amy’s on a rooftop with Kingfisher dangling from the edge. If you (as Amy) save him, she stays in the SFPD and gets together with Jeremy and it’s all butterflies and roses. However, if you let him fall to his death, Amy then realizes that she’s not fit for working in law enforcement, leaves Jeremy and the rest of the team, and goes to join Brimstone again.
Kai: Is also pretty much the same. But a few chapters before the finale, he was pretty sad about Kara. I don’t know if you played up until here, but Kara showed up in Tokyo, helped the team fight off a bunch of baddies, then was put under arrest. Kai got her a deal that meant if she used her criminal knowledge to help the SCT out with their cases, she’d be put under extended probation instead of being sent to prison. However, Kara refused the deal, used the contract pen to break out of her handcuffs, and ran off, after saying to Kai that it was “the end of the line” for them and she’d never see him again. It broke his heart.
Reed: Got in a huge fight with the Firstborn and was beaten down pretty badly. (By the way, the Firstborn’s actual face is an exact replica of Reed’s. He then used his voice-mimicking skills to pretend to be Reed and fooled the rest of the SCT). Anyways, the real Reed plans to find another career. Also, our suspicions of him being gay were kinda confirmed.
Firstborn: Dead as heck. Mal injected him with a lethal dose of Nightmare in a fight, and he died in absolute fear (which he had never felt previous to this).
That’s all I can remember (the main stuff anyways)! If you want more details or want to know the fates of the other characters, check out their character profiles on the Cause of Death Wikia. Or hit me up ;)
As always, if any of the Deathicated notice any errors in my summary, please tell me! I’ll fix them asap!
Thank you for this blog I love CoD! Its such a shame that the funding got cut! I was always kind of hoping a network would pick it up and turn it into a TV series.
And a TV series would've been amazing! But like, nobody knew about this game (it really wasn't advertised anywhere). I feel like the fact that it was an iPhone only game (and how you couldn't illegally share it on an online platform) really reduced the number people who could have played it and given it publicity.
