Hello! I was told about the story of efood in Greece, that the company one day decided to force the delivery people to be freelancers, and going from the top chain for delivery, like uber eats in the USA, their app got from 4.5 stars down to 1 star on Google overnight, and the majority of the customers cancelled the app. A week after, efood announced that the workers will now be permanent, insured, and they apologized. My friend showed me screenshots of this all happening and I now really really want a Greek to make an analytical post about this. Because imagine how much it'd encourage people in other countries that their power can topple big corporations, even if it's locally.
Hello! I am happy you found it inspiring! On Tumblr I've seen similar stories and people usually don't care much Greece so I don't think they'll pay attention to that. There are many American stories out there all the time, I think the message is clear enough. I can't strech enough the fucks not given for our issues here.
And I am unfortunately not in the mood of having foreigners from more privileged countries be like "ooh well done to Greece! We must follow their example because if they can do it, we can!" as if they have it worse and as if we are the pinnacle of worker rights. We are not, and, as bitter as it sounds, I don't want anyone to follow our examples on worker rights because we are still shitty.
By sharing the story it will seem like Greeks care for worker rights, and they don't. The employers cut corners wherever they can and the employees don't get organized and many times they are tired and afraid to act (I don't blame the workers exactly, it is what it is, we all want to ensure our own survival).
Obviously I don't mind if people spread the story, I just feel weird about the praise we might get or the "inspiration" we might give. We don't even follow that inspiration ourselves (as I said, shitty worker rights).
Besides you did a very good summary yourself here! So someone can get briefed a bit from what you wrote.
Sorry if the answer was overly negative. I assure you I found your message very sweet, I've just seen so much ill treatment of the workers in Greece I'll feel like a clown if I share this small success - like it's not the bare minimum from our side. I'll feel like I a fraud even towards countries less privileged than Greece. (This might not be realistic but it's just how I feel atm).
I deem the delivery people as very important, I support them my way, and I welcome everyone to share the story if they like. This is only my opinion and my feelings on the issue.
Thank you for sending the ask and being on the Greek workers' side 💙

The online app for food delivery efood announced on Thursday that it will turn all working contracts into ‘unlimited’ ones thus recognizing the time they worked in the past and will hire 2,016 people.
The company proceeds in changing the working status of delivery workers after a huge outcry on social media, customers backlash and thousands of negative comments that caused its rating in play stores to plunge
A week ago, the online food platform efood had decided to turn the contract-based workers into freelancers.
On Wednesday, delivery workers protested with a work stoppage and a motor-march outside the Labor Ministry in Athens, while they declared a 24-hour strike for today, Friday.
