The reason that Wailord is in the field Egg Grouo is because it's ancestors were land animals but it hasn't been enough time for them to fully switch to any of the wager egg groups, making them still have some of the reproductive traits of field egg group pokemon. The downside is that we get some really unhealthy crossbreeds with them...

Let's talk about Egg Groups!

We'll start off with the Field egg group, which is the largest of all the groups with 218 Pokémon in it. That's a huge number! Because the number is so huge, it's the most versatile breeding group, and it makes Egg Moves a lot easier to learn.

Most Pokémon that take up the Field egg group are considered mammalian, as in they typically have fur and are warm blooded. However, there are a few exceptions, like Kecleon and Ekans.

Smeargle is a part of the Field group, which is really convenient, as they can learn any Pokémon move! Breeding for Egg Moves with a Male smeargle is so easy!

Pokemon egg groups have changed in the last update according to Silph Road dataminers. This seems to make way more sense! No more disappointing Jynx 10km hatches!! :D

Egg Group flag time

Bug Egg Group: An Egg Group of creatures that are insectoids, arthropods, or share a similar body/traits with common earth insects and arachnids (examples being Drapion, Caterpie, Gliscor, and Burmy).

Field Egg Group: An Egg Group of creatures that are terrestrial, very common in fields and patches of grass, and possibility (but not always) mammalian (examples being Rattata, Tauros, Eevee, and Dunsparce).

Flying Egg Group: An Egg Group of creatures that are avian/bird-like, or are notable for being in the air/their ability to fly (examples being Pidgey, Togetic, and Archen).

Human-Like Egg Group: An Egg Group of creatures that have similar characteristics to humans, such as standing and walking on two legs, and/or possessing arms with which they could manipulate objects or deliver blows. (Examples being Machop, Hitmonlee, and Ralts).

No Eggs Discovered Egg Group: An Egg Group category for creatures that cannot breed or be categorized into an Egg Group, whether they are too immature/"baby-coded" to breed, or they are mythical, deity-like, or something else unique and special. (Examples being Pichu, Cleffa, Mew, Cosplay Pikachu, most special form event Pokemon, etc).

Egg Groups that don't have flags

Egg Group Definition: A grouping of traits that describes how you'd be classified by a Pokémon breeder. This identification can be silly/light-hearted/based on Pure Vibes or it can be a genuine statement about your species that says "this is what I would be in if I had to be organized into Egg Groups!" LIOMOGAI users may find this term useful to describe parts of their biology/desired biology, something about the species they are, or for some reason not listed here. Here is the coining post/template!

Feline Group: An Egg Group of creatures that are feline/cat-like, feline/cat-related, identify as felines, such as catgenders, catkin, cat exthranths, etc.

Bird Type Group: An Egg Group of creatures that are associated with beta versions of games, unused content, prototypes that weren't intended to be seen, and being an alternate version of something else that exists. This is based on Glitch Pokemon and Glitch Types like Missingno and the Bird Type but anybeing that's described with what I just said can fit this.

??? Group: An Egg Group of creatures that are bugs/programming errors, graphic errors, results of cheat codes, or otherwise messing with a game engine, such as arbitrary code execution-related beings, Pokémon/characters edited to have impossible stats, characters that were originally just glitched sprites which were nicknamed and treated like real characters by a fandom, etc.

Author's Note 1: Egg Groups (the identity) are not limited to the canon ones from Pokémon! They can be original/unique descriptions from outside the series, like these ones I just listed.

Author's Note 2: I have been meaning to make new Egg Groups to demonstrate Author's Note 1 for... Months. Sorry that it took so long.

Author's Note 3: I can't remember why I called the Bird Type Egg Group that way. Bird Type is also a glitch Pokémon type which can appear when you mess with the code so it feels like maybe the wrong name. I think I had a good reason but it's been 7 or 8 months since I wrote it down, so I can't figure it out.

Egg Group: Monster

Hello everyone! Today's Egg Group is the Monster category, which has a lot of really strong and a lot of favorites! This Egg Group has 79 Pokémon in it, which isn't even close to the amount that the Field egg group has.

The Monster category consists of a lot of large, powerful Pokémon that are typically bipedal (Stands on two legs), but there are a few quadruped (Stands on four legs) Pokémon as well.

Monster category Pokémon typically have large, powerful tails which they use for balance, as well as claws and fangs to protect their self or fight with. Additionally, most Monster category Pokémon tend to be lizard or dinosaur-like, but there are a few mammalian types, such as Kangaskhan and Ampharos.

This egg group has a lot of Starter Pokémon in it; Bulbasaur, Squirtle, Charmander, Chikorita, Totodile, Treeko, Mudkip, and Turtwig.

It also has Haxorus. Which I want.

Real bad.

Egg Group: Bug

Today's egg group is the Bug group! I think that the Bug egg group is a really interesting one, as there are 79 Pokémon in this category, but only 16 of those Pokémon are able to breed outside of the Bug category. This makes egg moves much harder to get in comparison to the other egg groups.

This category of Pokémon consists entirely of Bug-like Pokémon, ranging from arthropods to arachnids and caterpillars. While the Egg Group is very limited, the types of Pokémon within this category are actually very diverse!

One Pokémon that stands out in particular in this egg group, for me, is the Nincada line. Both Nincada and Ninjask are part of the Bug egg group, but Shedinja is not. Shedinja is considered a part of the Mineral egg group, because while it is Bug type, it's not technically a bug! It's a bug's discarded shell.
