hey can we talk about Metal Sonic and Sage. Can we please talk about Metal Sonic and Sage. You have to understand that like Eggman clearly holds some genuine affection for Metal Sonic he got his memories back after seeing him he hugged him he was worried when Metal was in danger but he also soooo very clearly at the same time has absolutely zero respect for Metal's autonomy. Literally programmed the teenage rebellion out of him. I think the same could be said for Sage if she ever acted outside her function of serving and protecting Eggman but she hasn't yet and she clearly changed something in Eggman, he listened to her when she asked him to team-up with Sonic. We just have not seen him enough post-Frontiers so we don't know for sure. And even if it was acting within her purpose to serve him Eggman did let her fight the End even though he very clearly did not want to which is SO nothing but it is lightyears above how Eggman treats Metal.

Sage would want to get along with Metal Sonic so badly like there's zero question about that. But I keep thinking about the Superstars Twitter Takeover and yeah those are only semi-canon at best but the question with Eggman about his favorite invention and his FIRST thought is Sage and when that is shot down he lists off some nothing robot. Metal Sonic isn't even on his mind it was a joke it was supposed to be a bit but it's so fucking real to me you don't get it nobody gets it. Even if Eggman has improved in his behavior post-Frontiers and again we REALLY haven't seen enough to say beyond the snippet of Sage and Metal we see in TMoStH (which is a whole other rant like they both have the Let's Go Dad shirts and even though Eggman has kind of off-handedly been like "hold on Metal papa's coming" once which is honestly very impersonal I can't think of a single instance where Eggman has genuinely referred to Metal as his son and this feels like it's actually teetering on the edge of that if only because Sage also has that shirt) Sage is now the favorite the golden child which was literally all Metal Sonic had oh my god he must hate her. If it was within his capabilities I'm 100 percent certain he would try to kill her but he can't act against Eggman's wishes and anyways I imagine after the whole End thing Eggman has probably made her functionally immortal as long as there's a piece of his tech connected to his network in the world.

AND EVEN IF. EVEN IF WE TOSS OUT THE TAKEOVER. and if we are generous and consider the idea that Eggman has been making an active effort with his children what does it matter. He didn't change for Metal Sonic. He did it for Sage. Metal wasn't enough for Eggman to treat him like a person he never was, even if Eggman does in the future that won't change the fact that he has done some frankly horrendous things to Metal and the ONLY reason he doesn't anymore is because of Sage. Sage wants a relationship with Metal Sonic but they can't have that because Metal's second best compared to Sage and the gap between them is so immeasurably wide that even if Metal wanted to neither of them could ever hope to cross it.
