Eggs benedict My favourite egg preparation, as elaborate a breakfast it can be! It's not a breakfast dish ideally, it more like a luxurious mid-morning meal. Eggs benedict is a cheerful dish, highly recommended as a hangover cure by many chefs In general, the eggs benedict features, an English muffin, cut open with each side topped with a slice of bacon/ham, a poached egg and creamy hollandaise sauce. all the magic lies in that thick yellow emulsion of butter and yolks and the perfectly poached eggs with that centre intact. Who invented this dish though? A very hard story to tell, it's a mystery rooted in the long-gone histories of New York city There are 3 theories and each theory has its set of followers and claims that their theory is true with whatever evidences they could find. Theory 1: It is said that in 1860s Delmonico's Chef Charles Ranhofer came up with his combo for his regular diners Mrs LeGrand Benedict, this recipe was later published in his cookbook in 1984 To this date, Delmonico Restaurant, in NYC serves up this dish to its customers. Theory 2: The other story goes that Lemuel went to the Waldorf Hotel one hungover morning in 1894 and asked for “some buttered toast, crisp bacon, two poached eggs, and a hooker of hollandaise sauce.” (A “hooker” is what we now call a “glug” or a “slug.”) Credit goes to Oscar Tschirky, maître d’(head waiter/manager) at the Waldorf Hotel for later adding this to the menu. He was a bit of an American culinary pioneer, you can say, he created the famous- Waldorf salad and made Thousand Island dressing, into a condiment you can't do without. Theory 3: Later, a far-fetched claim to the conception of the Eggs Benedict was made by Edward P. Montgomery on behalf of his uncle Commodore E. C. Benedict, a prominent banker, claiming it was his uncle who created this recipe. .. Which is your favourite Benedict from the story? ..
