In regard to that previous meta, there's a thing I forgot!

5.) The Breakup

At some point, in the background of the drama with Claudia & Armand & Louis, Santiago breaks up with Eglee, throwing her over for Celeste, despite how devoted Eglee appears to be, and despite describing Celeste to Claudia in less than glowing terms.

So why would he do such a thing? Is it really just a background detail to flavor the story? True love? Foolish lust?

Well...

Celeste was a member of the previous coven, from the bad old days of Hail Satan. She'd been around a long, long while, she knew Armand better than Santiago did -- she was there when Lestat came in and overthrew him. And by virtue of her age, she would've been more powerful than Eglee.

This is important when you're staging a coup.
