Collecting Trading Cards

While the one hundred yard skirmish of smash mouth Football is arguably America's sport, Baseball has long held the title of America's pastime. The legendary game once attributed to Abner Doubleday has added much to the cultural heritage of American life including the spin-off pastime of card collecting. Modern collectable cards featuring comicbook characters are the direct descendants of the baseball card from the late 1800s.

The United States Library of Congress features chromolithographs of baseball cards from as early as 1887. These early card sets feature many the concepts that make up modern trading cards over 130 years later. Collecting cards based on the powerful and mysterious heroes and villains from comicbooks is a pastime that is only rivaled by the fun of collecting comics. At first glance, the palm sized discs carried by the villainous vixen Kharibdis may look harmless but that one glance may be your last!

Quickly dubbed "spindrils" (spinning + tendrils) by meme makers studying the reports from the Wavefront Event, the corded rounds used by Kharibdis are engineering miracles in miniature. Although the exact specifications are still unknown, the spindrills are discs with a central axle. The spindril has a detachable pull string that is attached to an internal spindle. The push button arms the device and allows the spindril to freely rotate.

The pull string not only allows the spindril to be steered, it can be used to trigger the device. Once triggered the entire spindril vaporizes releasing any number of devious payloads.

Known variants: Day-Blink Spindril: This variant can temporarily disorient and blind adversaries.
