So I actually wish I had more details to share, because I’d love to know what exactly finally got them to do something about this situation. Like I said, I definitely felt like last week was a turning point, between MPC’s refusing to be in the same meeting as me and IB’s heavier involvement. After last week I did feel like he would get fired at some point. But I figured that the absolute soonest would be after I came back from vacation, because having both our positions absent at once would be judged too much a disaster - better he at least got some stuff done than no one being there.
I honestly don’t know whether they were planning to fire him today ahead of time. As I wrote earlier today, he emailed IB that he would be late because he was having trouble getting out of the house, and didn’t show up til 10:45. This was probably a worse day than average for that to happen, because B’s B had sent him something over the weekend with a note to do it immediately today as quickly as possible (it was sent by fax and I get all the faxes). But most of the day proceeded normally. MPC even had multiple conversations with IB about a longterm project he was working on and plans for it.
Then at 4:30ish B’s B came over and said, “[MPC], [IB] and I would like to meet with you.” Based on his body language, MPC seemed totally laid back and unworried. I’m guessing he thought it was something about the conversation of our respective roles going forward. I, on the other hand, was like, “Oooooohhhhhhhhh!” because I couldn’t picture any scenario where this would be a positive conversation. B’s B has a notoriously packed calendar; it’s difficult to get a scheduled meeting with him much of the time, and he had not had meetings with either MPC or IB scheduled. For him to jump out of his back to back meetings unscheduled, to talk to MPC along with IB rather than just having her do it, was a clear negative.
Literally no more than 1-2 minutes later, I heard a door shut a little harder than usual (enough that it was unclear whether it had been slammed or just accidentally shoved a little too hard). MPC walked back to his desk, rustled some things around a bit, put on his jacket, picked up his bag, and walked out without saying a word to anyone.
2-3 minutes later IB pulled me into a conference room and gave me the news. I’m the only one who was told today, and was told not to say anything to other coworkers until the official email announcement goes out tomorrow. B”H I have plenty of non-work people to tell to tide me over. 😂

What are you gonna blog about now though? 😜just teasing
Probably the stresses of covering 2 positions for the 2nd time in a year lol, and this time unplanned at that (last time started as a maternity leave).
But I’m very hopeful about where this is going. Prior to MPC’s firing we were already going to discuss some level of restructuring the 2 positions, and now we’ll be able to do it before we hire someone new, without clashing personalities or baggage involved. I wanted to do this last year when I was offered MPC’s position after the person before him decided not to come back after maternity leave, but my boss at the time wasn’t open to hearing my thoughts about the positions. This time I feel confident I’m going to be consulted much more and taken seriously as an authority on the 2 positions. I also have a feeling they’ll actually let me be at least somewhat involved in the hiring process for the new person this time, unlike last time when I didn’t get to so much as meet any of the candidates before someone was hired (and I could have told you from a simple google search that MPC had poor judgement, if nothing else).
I’m mainly just worried about this week and a half I’m going to be gone, but...we’ll figure it out. I was already trying to get as much done before I left as possible, so that it wouldn’t be in MPC’s hands, so we could be in a worse position than we are. I’d also already begun compiling an email to him last week (since he wouldn’t speak to me) about everything that needs to get done in my absence, as well as projects for the person I supervise, so now we have that information to pass onto....someone, no clue who, but we have the information. :P
