If you have practiced with an accoustic piano for a long time and then switch to a semi-weighted keyboard for a year, would it be difficult to go back to playing the accoustic? Thanks for your time.
Only if you let your technique get lazy on the keyboard. Since the action on keyboards is typically less stiff than the action on acoustic pianos, it’s easy to “cheat” and cut technical corners. Common technical mistakes on keyboards:
Flat fingers
Collapsed joints
Knuckles collapsing lower than the finger joints
Elbows pinched too close to the sides (if the keyboard bench is cheap/wobbly, or you’re using something random like a folding chair, your seated alignment will get tense to compensate)
Wrists elevated to the point they’re tense
Of course these mistakes happen on acoustic pianos too, but they’re particularly easy to do on digital keyboards.
Solution:
When your hand is at rest on the keyboard, it should be in the same shape as if it was hanging by your side: all four fingers relaxed and gently curved, thumb loose, wrists relaxed
ONLY TOUCH THE KEYS WITH THE TIPS OF YOUR FINGERS AND THE SIDE OF YOUR THUMB
THE FLAT PART OF YOUR FINGERS, WHERE THE JOINT MAKES THAT LITTLE CREASE, MUST NEVER TOUCH THE KEYS
Sorry @einzel not yelling at you it’s just a thing that makes me nuts ok 😝
Seriously tho play with the tips of your fingers like God intended and everything will be better
ok good luck! If you’ve already been practicing on an acoustic for a long time you’ll be fine.
