The world of Eitheria, cont.
...Now, dear reader, you must forgive me as I will find it suitable to delve a little further into Mieta phenomena before moving onto next wonderful species, but there’s much to be said about their society, which, although resembling standard cerebral societies to a certain degree, has its fair share of uniqueness.
As Folk of Woo proclaims mathematics the greatest science and holds naturphilosophical approach to the things, feeling compelled to sketch out the secret safe of Nature’s inner workings before cracking it open and stealing the boons, Mieta approach resembles the work of a smarter burglar who does not care much about all possible safes out there as about the code needed to crack this one. They perfected the methods of testing and finding the solution to the problem based on solutions to similar ones, and while for some it may seem that never stopping to think about what the problem “really is” is a travesty, they’d argue it a waste of time. Their most prized science is medicine, and they know so much about organic lifeforms — in the utilitarian sense — that it didn’t take them much time to pick up on otherworldly species, too.
Apologies for my speculation, but i feel the connection between their science and their politics, which consists of an “entrance exam”, a test every qualifying adult must take regularly, and the amount of them necessary then graduate in a special school to deliver solutions and justice upon their peers. I imagine this could be an abusable system, but I do not find it much worse than some of our own ones.
Mieta development is all about being complacent, largely, and finding happiness by austerity and ways proven by the past. Their science and politics seem to me as an extension of that, slow iterations to improve status-quo, rarely a breakthrough, rarely a revolution, and lots and lots of useful results. I would remark that we might have something to learn from them, but I’m not delusional enough to believe we truly are able to...
All Mieta (again, it’s a small nation) share the same language, with a dialect here and there, called “Mie”, or “Dark speech”. “Mie-ta”, is” correspondingly, “those who speak Dark”. The origins of that are in the well-known creation myth that in the early ages of the planet, there existed the Light Speech which didn’t have many words, but each had the power to change the universe. Their descendants were Mieta, who got scared of the power and invented a language in which a lie can be told; unfortunately, the grace of knowing the Light Speech was eventually renounced from them, leaving them powerless but all more happy. This connects back to the popular ascetic philosophy of the masses.
I urge readers who have access to the translations of Mieta popular works of the past to familiarize themselves with the wildest ranges their culture takes. Poetry I find especially remarkable. But I am afraid I’m not a culturologist, so no comment will be given on that matter; and next time I shall move onto Neyer, an incredibly curious society of semi-sentient fungus.
