Descanse en paz, Inca Garcilaso de la Vega. Born in Cusco to a Spanish aristócrata father and a royal Inca mother, Gómez Suárez de Figueroa came to be the first writer/chronicler actually born in the New World whose work was admitted to the canon, documenting the history and culture of the Inca Empire shortly after its conquest by the Spanish. He died on this date in Córdoba at the age of 77.
