I found some pretty known Greek vintage songs from 1910 (even if Greeks don't know it directly they know melodies and lines). If you want to have a vintage 1910 Greek Aegean morning with some coffee, take a listen. ☕️
You might be transported to a vintage Greek restaurant (taverna) or coffee shop (kafeneio), where these songs are still heard.
The composer is Μιχάλης Σουγιούλ (Mihalis Soyul), stage name of Μιχαήλ Σουγιουλτζόγλου, a Greek from Minor Asia who later met great success in the Greek mainland.
Granted, the 1910's weren't an easy time for Greece so many "light" (elafro) and "rebetiko" songs had melancholic lyrics. But in that atmosphere, the singers sometimes have a rebellious attitude of wanting to have fun despite the difficulties of their life.
If you like a certain melody and wonder what it says, you can reach to me to do a translation!
