ELAIZA – “night walk”(official video)

(Kosai Sekine)
Eurovision that deserves better: Germany 2014. I said what I said.
Eurovision 2010s: 209 - 205
209. Anna Rossinelli - “In love for a while”. Switzerland 2011
“In love for a while” is three minutes of rather friendly, if pleasant noises. The entry itself is nothing worth getting excited over.
However, what does excite me is that this fricking song not only survived a very stacked semifinal in which it was considered a guaranteed NQ, but on doing so also MURDERED the shit entries from Turkey and Armenia 😈 This is equivalent to Carousel qualifying this year, and in doing so slaying Leonora and Sergey. SO MUCH UNDERDOG BLOOD CLINGING TO ITS HANDS, WE STAN!! #ForceOfGood 🤭

208. Elaiza - “Is it right?” Germany 2014
“Is it right?” is a pleasant song, a likable presence in its own right. I think it’s better though because it’s a lowkey earworm.
However, Elaiza also provide a variation of the Rossinelli journey: first of all, it (deservedly) won an excellent edition of Unser Song from a wildcard position, which is hilarious (because the alternative, Unheilig, was universally beloved and also not very good), and secondly they somehow avoided bottom five, despite, you know, Germany and despite being wedged right between Conchita and Sanna <3 We love our overachieving randoms!!

207. Waylon - “Outlaw in ‘em” the Netherlands 2018
[2018 Review here]
Waylon is a whole different beast, however. I actually think “Outlaw in ‘em” was a pretty great song that provided a lot of high voltage energy in a year that I honestly didn’t care much about. Love that the general æsthetic bursts with personality <3 the leopard print jacket and the personalized guitar belt <3 It just feels so quintessentially Waylon.
However, we need to address the act, which was terrible. It’s one of those cases where, yes, the link between song and act is a valid one, but at the same time, this is Europe, motherfucker. Nobody here was ever going to understand the liaison between the American dance style of “krumping” and “outlaw in ‘em” without looking up the former. So why even *have* that act and assume people are going to care enough to inform themselves? STAGING THAT ISN’T SELF-EXPLANATORY IS BAD STAGING!
Good song though ^__^

206. Sarah McTernan - “22″ Ireland 2019
“Everytime I’m with somebody I’m confusing him with you” Did we ever get a lowdown of how Sarah’s dating life works? WE WANT THE RECEIPTS DAMMIT. 😡
Anyway, given how generally lifeless Sarah’s portrayal of “22″ was over the pre-show, I fully expected her to give me nothing of value in the actual performance... and I was wrong! I actually enjoyed “22″! It’s cute! Granted, being stranded beween Anna and Srbuk makes anyone look great, but still, Sarah made for fun, whimsical NQ fodder. The pop art/diner look were inspired choices! I will now move on by pointing out that her milkshakes are three loofahs stacked on top of each other <3 I love me some tacky thirftstore proppage <3
CONGRATZ MOLLY STERLING FOR BEING THE HIGHEST RANKED IRISH ENTRANT!!!! in what is Ireland’s worst decade... I think? lol. They suck w/e.

205. Agnete - “Icebreaker” Norway 2016
EISSSSSSBREKUUUUUUUUH WEN YA STAK IN FROXEN WOTR...x
I don’t think I need to explain this placement of this bargain bin Maggie Burger. You either like the key change in “Icebreaker” or you don’t. I personally like the key change. Yet I also think "Icebreaker” would’ve been a lot better had it not had that key change in the first place though. 😬
and with that, we’ve now reached the midpoint of this ranking :o
