Alas, Elaphrus cupreus is just a little too small to have its marvellous blue ocelli admired by humans on a regular basis. Look for it moving fast round the edges of ponds and streams.

I found a Marsh Ground Beetle (Elaphrus) in my backyard. This little beetle looks like a tiger beetle but much smaller and with different markings. I put this up on my iNaturalist account and got a genus id.

Ground Beetle - Elaphrus cupreus

Elaphrus cupreus (Coleoptera - Carabidae) is a common and distinctive European species of Ground Beetle, which is frequent in damp and marshy areas. This tiny beetle up to 9 mm is decorated with conspicuous purple ocellate depressions on the elytra.
