This one i realize is kind of alot so only answer the ones you want to.. im just like a super nerd about animals and its rubbing off on my love for the game

So what is the siren nature like? just generally. Like their life cycle for example, or perhaps their relationship to offspring. do they have alot of them at once and kinda just let them do whatever, or do they have few and protect them more fiercely?

Do they only really exist in one part of the ocean or are they very scattered about? if they are scattered, how do they differ? do they have different subspecies? if so what are they like? What does early life look like for a siren?

Is there a predator thats apex to a siren? or are they always apex for the most part? do other big carnivorous animals stay away from them? great white for example

Do they only really exist in the sunlight zone? or do they go down to the midnight zone? i imagine only sirens like moon or MAYBE eclipse go down deeper since sunny would be more visible in the depths-

What can sirens tolerate vs not? or are they a very resilient species? Do they migrate like most fish or do they stay specifically in their territory all year-round? would that imply they stay near the equator?

do they have any interesting instincts? like how a fawn has spots and ducks down whenever their mother isnt around to hide, or how a bombardier beetle can shoot out what is essentially boiling liquid. or just general fun facts about random stuff they can do?

also if y/n ever had the opportunity to make it, what kind of flavours would they like most? can they sense more then humans in some aspects?

[Siren Natural History: A Study of the Species]

1. General Biology

1.1 Distribution & Habitat

Do they really live only in certain parts of the ocean, or are they widely scattered? If they're widely scattered, what differences are there between them? Are there different subspecies? If so, what do they look like?

From a human perspective, nearly every known siren is an isolated case — but that's more a reflection of current continental technological limitations and the enforcement of the Maritime Ban than of siren biology itself. So we can't really draw conclusions just from what humans have observed.

And yes, in a sense, Moros!Eclipse — before he was captured and modified by humans — was one of the main reasons that ban was enacted in the first place…

The world as it stands is broadly divided into three regions:

Y/N's home country

The ocean

The other eastern country across the sea

(More detailed maps are still in progress — and some are a bit spoiler-heavy — so we'll keep this rough for now.)

Native siren distribution is highly scattered. Territories are essentially independent domains across the ocean. Seasonal fish migrations do influence siren territory activity — but female sirens are notably more aggressive and domineering (though we can't judge their behavior by human moral standards). An underage female can even claim another siren's territory outright — they have the right to choose the most abundant hunting grounds, though the trade-off is a higher risk of being harassed by males…

As for subspecies: sirens don't really have that concept. To them, it's more like: "Jenny has a bigger tail!" "Theodore has more appendages and arms!" "Raj has extra side-fins!"

So just about any tail shape is possible.

That said, there is a wide variety of physical forms. Theoretically, a siren could even cut themselves in half and grow a new tail if they're unhappy with the current one — but it would still be incredibly painful, so it almost never happens.

The only consistent trait: female sirens have no breasts or mammary tissue. In fact, it's often hard to tell a siren's sex just from appearance or tail size alone…

1.2 Depth Range & Light Adaptation

Do they really only live in sunlit zones, or do they extend into the midnight zone? Would individuals like Moon or Eclipse venture deeper? — since bioluminescence would be more visible in the dark?

Most sirens live in the twilight zone (200–1000m), where light is dim. They typically follow a diel vertical migration pattern — diving deep during the day and rising to hunt at night. Some also ascend into the photic zone (0–200m) during active hunting.

Sunny is a major exception. He deliberately shifted his entire circadian rhythm to match a human schedule — day-active, night-resting. He's an absolute anomaly, which is why he spends most of his time in shallow waters and near the shore. (This is also part of why Moon finds him so insufferable.)

Moon, on the other hand, prefers darker environments. Compared to other sirens, he's more drawn to the truly lightless zones — the midnight zone (1000m+) . The bioluminescent tips on his head-fins actually evolved after his head was caught in a propeller and regrew. He wasn't born with them.

They adapt remarkably well to pressure changes — their bodies are built to self-regulate across different depths, automatically switching between circulatory systems as needed.

Moros!Eclipse was once more adventurous — as a younger siren, he tried to explore the abyssal zone (4000m+) . That expedition nearly starved him, so he never went that deep again. (No siren would bother claiming a territory with no food!)

2. Life Cycle & Reproduction

2.1 Life Cycle Overview & Early Development

What are sirens' habits like, generally speaking? What does their life cycle look like? What is a siren's early life like?

Moon is closer to the "average" siren, so let's use him as a baseline: hide during the day, curl up somewhere comfortable — hunt at dusk, stay active through the night — patrol, hunt, keep watch — eat, rest somewhere again — tinker with things in underwater labs to pass the time — go back to sleep — get woken up by Sunny's singing — slap a tailful of water at him.

Once the eggs leave the mother's body, they enter a dormant incubation phase. If energy is scarce, they'll stay dormant until the right temperature or current triggers hatching.

Life cycle curve: Rapid infancy → Extremely long youth → Rapid senescence

Infant sirens don't fully depend on adults — they're born with basic survival instincts.

Sunny and Moon have gone from being small fish barely over a meter long to the large sirens they are today — over several decades. They've gone from "unpracticed hunters" to "extremely skilled ones."

Moros!Eclipse is still young. His parents were roughly the same generation as Sunny and Moon's parents — theoretically they should all be similar in size. Why does he seem so much bulkier and more robust? …He just eats too much fish.

Relative to human age: Sunny and Moon are like teenagers — just matured, in their late teens. Moros!Eclipse is more like a twenty-something junior leader just starting his career.

2.2 Reproduction & Parental Investment

Do they produce many offspring at once and leave them to fend for themselves, or fewer offspring with more care? What is their relationship with their young like?

Sirens are not mass-spawners. This largely depends on the female's receptivity. In reality, peaceful pregnancy and normal birth are relatively rare:

A third party may appear, kill the mate, and claim the female.

The female may become hormonally aggressive and abuse or kill her mate.

The female may become depressed and refuse to be approached — or refuse repeated mating attempts.

Native siren females tend to be indifferent to their eggs. Males are usually the ones who tend to the eggs and hatchlings. The egg-laying process itself doesn't take the same toll on the female as human childbirth — it's more like a kind of courtship game. Some females will even lay their eggs somewhere random and simply leave. To them, it's just "unloading." This also means many eggs never successfully hatch.

You might have noticed the star-shaped marks on all three sirens' chests. That's evidence of ancient interbreeding with humans (thousands of years ago — the bloodline has become incredibly diluted since). That star mark indicates that these sirens carry stronger emotional capacity compared to others — which is also why Sunny and Moon are able to coexist relatively peacefully.

As for other sirens and their offspring? Mostly neglect — or brief care before leaving. (And even then, the male does most of the work — females almost never participate in raising or teaching the young.)

3. Ecological Niche & Predation

3.1 Position in the Food Chain

Are there any apex predators that can rival sirens? Are they generally at the top of the food chain?

Humans. Humans are also apex predators.

Yes — but everything changed once humans developed advanced technology.

3.2 Interactions with Other Species

Do other large predators avoid them? For example, great white sharks?

They actually get along pretty well. Sirens are not indiscriminate killing machines — their hunting is functional, not recreational.

(Also: great white sharks don't taste particularly good — just as most humans wouldn't eat their pets.)

(Moon's stress response was an accident — he was dying at the time.)

Marine species with higher intelligence may communicate with them, exchange information — there's a shared acoustic communication system across the ocean. And yes, that includes a distinct siren language.

4. Behavioral Ecology

4.1 Territory & Migration

Do they migrate like most fish, or stay in their territory year-round? If so — does that mean they live near the equator?

Almost year-round in their own territory — provided there's enough food. If food becomes scarce, they'll leave and find a new territory.

Sirens are not migratory. Their distribution is tied to the Core's energy field, not latitude.

(This is also why Moon loves hanging around the Core lab — there's a natural pull.)

The waters Sunny and Moon inhabit do experience seasonal changes — storms, colder winters — and they can adapt to temperate zones and even colder seas. They don't need to stay in the tropics. Siren distribution has nothing to do with latitude.

4.2 Environmental Tolerance & Adaptability

What can sirens tolerate? What can't they tolerate? Are they a highly adaptable species?

Summary: extremely adaptable.

If the state hadn't restricted ocean exploration, they might have come ashore thousands of years ago, evolved into something closer to human form, and lived alongside humans.

Compared to land-dwelling humans, they're more like the humans of the ocean.

(Side note: the only known vulnerabilities are extreme heat/burns and catastrophic trauma to the heart.)

(Oh — and the night Sunny's proposal failed, Moon amputated him. Moon stayed by his side the whole time, making sure the severed tissue completely lost biological activity and stopped regenerating before he came back to you.)

(Otherwise, you'd have seen a lump of disoriented flesh crawling toward you, instinctively seeking your touch.)

4.3 Unique Instincts & Abilities

Do they have any interesting instincts? (e.g., fawn spots, bombardier beetles' boiling liquid, etc.) Any other fun trivia about their abilities?

…The funniest one: female sirens, in order to escape persistent males, will pick up rocks and hurl them at the suitor — just like octopuses do.

Actually… Sunny just read too many human books. He convinced himself his songs had a mesmerizing effect — deliberately modeling himself after the "siren" myth from human fairy tales. In reality… his singing is just really beautiful. That's it. Just — genuinely beautiful.

And Y/N's fast healing ability? That's actually a side effect of Eclipse's heart fragment becoming active near the Core.

As for Moon hiding in the shadows? He's just really good at hiding.

There's nothing particularly fantastical about it — it's all just a series of misunderstandings.

Only certain songs have any real effect—for instance, the lullaby Eclipse uses to put yn to sleep. It's the song itself that works, not some special ability unique to that particular siren. You can think of it as a kind of automated script—one that just happens to be able to act on living creatures.

If I had to pick a special ability, though… blowing fifty bubbles in a single breath might qualify.

5. Senses & Perception

5.1 Sensory Acuity

Are they more sensitive than humans in certain ways?

Especially hearing and vision. Sunny can sense Y/N approaching from several hundred meters away. All sirens have excellent night vision.

And yes — the bases of their fins and the areas around their gills are extremely sensitive.

5.2 Taste & Food Preferences

If Y/N had the chance to make food, what flavor would they like most?

Their sense of taste isn't as refined as a human tongue. For example: capsaicin (spiciness) barely registers — you could probably force them to eat a cactus pad. …But they'd get a stomachache.

Humans are not tasty. Humans taste bad. Yuck.

Tuna is great. You can make them tuna sashimi.

High-fat foods are also excellent: salmon, avocado — and land-based fatty meats like pork and beef are fantastic.

Grilled food? They'd feel a slight sting in the mouth — but it won't stop them from swallowing. (How could they refuse anything made by their mate?)

Dairy is fine too — they don't have lactose intolerance. They can eat ice cream.

…They're basically obsessed with anything their mate is holding. Moros!Eclipse will constantly try to steal the little cakes and desserts in your hand. (Even now, he's still like this…)

You can hit him. Like taking a bone from a dog's mouth.
