Okay, so some general stuff first:

I'm leaning less into body horror with the transformations, it's more like a burst of magic and the bam, monster.

The ground can take on hybrid forms, or just make certain parts of their monster forms appear, but that doesn't happen for a while.

If you didn't catch it in the last post: each member of the Isekai Squad ™️ has a certain proclivity towards specific elements, which obviously ties right back to their monster forms.

For example: Luis has a much easier time using ice magic due to his monster form being Lunagaron.

Interestingly Leon has access to Dragon Communion spells, despite having never taken part in it. This is literally because Dragon Communion is the closest thing to dragon element Elden Ring has.

Chris meanwhile, can't use magic not just because he's more strength-focused in my mind, but also because technically Brachydios doesn't have an element.

…Not sure what to do about Sherry and Ethan though.

Debating whether they should be able to speak while in monster form. On one hand, there's precedent in Elden Ring, on the other… Idk.

We'll do this character-by-character, starting off with…

1. Leon:

Leon is a clumsy mess after his first transformation, he was mostly working off pure adrenaline and instinct during the fight with Agheel. So upon figuring out how to do it again, he's kinda just an awkward mess.

And dear gog does he suck at flying. Valstrax's wings are… an anatomical marvel to be sure, but they aren't exactly easy to use. So southern Limgrave ends up with several deep craters from where he crashed, much to the poor guy's embarrassment.

At least he figured out how to use the wing guns, which he thinks are kinda cool.

So I did some research on peregrine falcons (the closest thing irl to Valstrax's speed), and it turns out they and other birds can effectively see in slow-motion. It's an adaptation to flying at high speeds, and needing to make breakneck decisions. Birds like them can pick out the individual movements of leaves and branches, while flying at high speed.

It's extremely safe to assume that Valstrax has something similar to this - if not better considering the higher speeds it flies at. In this case it turns off automatically upon either landing, or flying below a certain speed.

All that said, it's very disorientating for Leon at first.

Leon's curse has a nasty side effect though, one that shows itself when he's furious.

The curse makes him produce far more dragon element than he actually needs, and if you know anything about Valstrax - you know that's bad.

He becomes Crimson Glow Valstrax, the monster representing his fear of becoming the very thing he fights. This form is out of his control; until he can overcome his fears, Leon will be a Comet of Doom to all in his path.

2. Claire:

Claire has a much easier time when it comes to flying, and takes to it quickly. She's the first to become confident enough to engage in dogfights.

She has more trouble with her ice, actually. Aiming the frozen projectiles, and actually launching them from her wings and tail is… a steep learning curve to put it mildly.

The amount of times one of her friends got coated in frost is… way higher than she'd like to admit, and she always feels bad when it happens (except when it's Chris).

Her beak has a small tip behind the front, like some birds of prey. This can be used to sever the spine of whatever poor bastard pissed her off.

She's terrifyingly adept at using her talons, which are sharp and serrated like ice picks.

Until Leon gets his shit together, she's easily the best flyer in the group. She's still second-best even after Leon and Carlos take to the skies.

Her berserk form is:

Shrieking Legiana. A form that represents her fear and self-doubt, frantically attacking friend and foe in the name of self-preservation.

3. Chris:

Poor guy's not escaping the boulder-punching jokes, especially now.

The group finds out about the explosive slime mold in… probably the most on-brand fashion possible: by accident.

They'd been trying to figure out how strong Brachy!Chris was, when they noticed some of the green coloring from his… pounders? Is that what Brachy's fists technically are? Anyway - they find some of it had rubbed off onto the rock wall Chris was punching (they didn't even realize the green was anything unusual). They then watched in confusion as it changed colors from green, to yellow, to red.

Aaaaand then they get knocked flat on their asses by a giant explosion.

Chris is… going through a lot in this au; from his friends getting pissed at him for what he did to Ethan, to his trauma rearing its ugly head and making him take drastic actions. His volatility is actually reflected in his monster form, as the longer he goes without addressing his issues, the more it warps into something else.

Yup, that's Raging Brachydios. It's basically Chris's anger and self-loathing made manifest in this, becoming a complete berserker that attacks anything with a pulse.

4. Rebecca:

Hilariously, for a good amount of time she accidentally grows the plants around her. She keeps forgetting about her stinger and... yeah.

On the bright side, the flora has never been healthier!

The Lands Between has some very... interesting plants, ones that are quite useful in combat. Rebecca keeps seeds of these plants on-hand just in case

Yes she's basically Ussopp

She was pretty clumsy as well, walking on four legs was not easy.

Her berserk form is:

Shagaru Magala, the plague-bearing Elder Dragon. Representing her fear of creating a worse contagion while making cures; Rebecca infects all in her path with the Frenzy Virus, a golden star of death and plague.

5. Sherry:

Sherry... does not like her monster form, like at all. It's a constant reminder of the T-Virus, RCS, and her unique situation with the G-Virus.

She's actually the one who uses it the least out of the group, even Leon uses his more.

I'm still going to list a few things anyway, if only to have it put down somewhere.

She can actually mutate her monster form, growing extra eyes or limbs with ease; and she can get rid of them just as easily and painlessly. This is because of how the magic of the Lands Between messes with the G-Virus, so it's awake but controllable.

She doesn't technically need her eyes to see, the Affluviun she releases can sort of act as her eyes - in a way.

Now... for the berserk form:

Ohoho yeah, that's who you think it is.

Fatalis, the god of death and living incarnation of destruction. A calamity that hates all life.

This is the manifestation of Sherry's rejection of herself and her parents' legacy, her dark desire to burn the whole world down given flesh. It also represents her terror of what would happen if the G-Virus within her was ever unleashed; the blood and death that would be on her hands.

6. Jill:

Okay so this needs some explanation.

So in the Monster Hunter Stories games, Nargacuga could... I dunno how to describe it, but they can basically turn invisible for a short period of time. Jill can do this too.

She is terrifying with the feather spikes.

There was more than one occasion where she scared the shit out of someone with the glowy eyes.

She is miffed about not being able to fly, like wing blades are cool but at what cost?

Is the sneakiest of the group, even Grace can't hold a candle to her stealth abilities.

Now for the berserk form:

Mi Ru, an unclassified monster from Frontier that can kinda shapeshift.

This form represents Jill's past trauma after being infected twice, once by Nemesis and then by Wesker. She still hasn't gotten over the latter experience, which is reflected in Mi Ru.

This is what Jill fears she will one day be remembered as: another snarling monster under the thumb of someone else, and not as the former STARS agent who fought until the bitter end.

7. Carlos:

Poor guy has to get used to the sheer energy Astalos has, there's a reason those monsters act so erratic after all. The Flying Wyverns love to fight and race other wyverns, as it helps expend excess energy.

He also has a bad habit of accidentally zapping his friends, the more excited he is the more likely it'll happen.

That said, he also loves flying.

Carlos can actually enter a pseudo-Boltreaver state if he charges up enough electricity, although using the lightning horn takes some... getting used to.

Now his berserk form:

Flaming Espinas, a subspecies of the rose-themed Espinas. It's powerful enough to take on, and even overpower Elder Dragons like Teostra

This monster represents Carlos' guilt for working at Umbrella and feeling like he hadn't done enough in the years after, along with his fear of being seen as a lazy guard dog; something that's still tied to its master and awaiting new orders.

8. Ada:

Ada's... complex and hard to really write. We don't know where she's been since RE6, so it's difficult to write her.

Honestly that's on-brand for her so, whatever.

At first, she finds this whole situation amusing, plus it's fun to mess with Leon again.

That changes when her curse starts acting up, flaring at its worst when she attempts to sneak around.

Her curse is far more of a punishment than anyone else's, reacting to her more selfish and malevolent desires. It basically forces her to redeem herself, even if her actions can never truly be forgiven.

Her Lala Barina form is a dangerous one, the mercenary moving with an unnatural grace in the alien body. The red poisonous silk she produces being a deadly weapon in her claws.

Her berserk form is:

Ahtal-Ka, a golden Neopteran who is arguably the strongest of its group.

This form represents how people truly see Ada: a greedy and violent woman who wouldn't hesitate to kill or betray them.

9. Luis:

The irony of him getting an ice wolf form is not lost on Luis, he can't help but wonder if some god is laughing at him.

Despite being a mage, Luis isn't afraid to get up close with his claws and fangs. The werewolf-esq enraged form is something he tales a dark joy in, able to take out his anger and frustrations on enemies.

When Luis hears that Wesker used the Plaga to cause chaos in Africa, any feeling of atonement he'd had completely vanished. His sacrifice had meant nothing in the end, the world was still being plagued by something he helped create.

This guilt caused this form to emerge:

Akura Vashimu, a scorpion-like monster who attacks using crystals.

As stated above, this form represents Luis' guilt at causing the Las Plagas to ravage the world, along with his trauma regarding Los Illuminados.

10. Ashley:

Another flyer joins the chaos! At least she didn't get stuck as a bug?

The venom of Dreadqueen is something Ashley has to be very careful with, as it can even waft off of her tail as purple miasma. Eventually Rebecca is able to make antidotes for the (many, many) different venom types the group has, but until then everyone who can use poison has to walk on eggshells.

She's not the fastest nor the most agile, but she's shockingly adept on the ground. The poison crystals she creates are able to trap and pin most foes, minus those who can fly.

She's really happy to see Leon and Luis again, missing the two men who changed her life.

Her berserk form is:

Unknown, a mysterious Flying Wyvern theorized to be closely related to the Raths.

Unknown represents how Ashley fears to become; someone so consumed by their trauma that they've become unapproachable. A ticking timebomb just waiting to explode.

11. Ethan:

Ethan is... going through a lot, to say the least. His anger at Chris is something the group instantly notice after the blond joins them, although neither man seem willing to explain.

It takes some doing before Leon is able to gain the man's trust, although once he does, Ethan lets slip what really happened during the Baker and Village incidents.

Leon's appalled by what the man had to go through, and isn't even upset to hear that Ethan is technically a pile of sapient mold. No, he's more pissed off at how Chris handled the whole situation.

Ironically Ethan is able to adapt to his monster form the easiest, seeing as Blackveil Vaal Hazak also uses mold. The blindness doesn't even really affect him, because his mold steps up and helps him navigate his surroundings.

Even still, Ethan also has a berserk form:

Disufiroa, a powerful Black Dragon who controls Frozen Seraphim Element.

This dragon represents Ethan's fear of his death, and the guilt of leaving his daughter behind without her father. The Frozen Seraphim Disufiroa commands looks eerily similar to calcified mold, which Ethan unfortunately experienced firsthand.

12. Grace:

It's painful to her how appropriate it was she got a chameleon, what better for a coward like her, right?

Grace is dealing with a lot of guilt during the group's journey, unable to look any of Leon's friends and family in the eye (she left him to die).

It gets to the point that Leon finally confronts her about it, telling her that it was his choice to die in the ARK. He was already a dead man walking, after all.

Claire obviously disagrees with that last part, seeing as he left Sherry and everyone who cared about him without even a good-bye.

...Yeah most of Leon's friends aren't exactly happy with him.

Grace's berserk form is:

Dureimudira, one of the strongest Black Dragons ever discovered.

This form represents several things: Grace's anxiety, her inability to accept her mother's death, her guilt at causing Leon's own death, and her fear of her "destiny" to unleash Elpis.
