Cue the Eldergoth Nostalgia! Images from Drac-in-the-Box.
i would love to learn more about what movies you'd see projected in goth clubs if you remember any!
In no particular order, and this isn't a comprehensive list:
The Lost Boys
The Hunger
Labyrinth
Legend
All the classic B&W horror movies - Dracula, Frankenstein, The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari, Nosferatu, etc.
Near Dark
Aliens
Anything by Brothers Quay
Susperia
Any of the Hammer Horror movies
... I know I'm forgetting ones, but I was generally too busy dancing to notice what was playing on the walls.
Happy World Goth Day! Here, have some Eldergoth Nostalgia:
LET ME TELL YOU: so many of us romantigoth types in the 90s asked for gift certificates to Pier One Imports and then hoarded them until the holiday sales. Everything with the blue and gold celestial theme! Flowing velvet skirts with beads and sequins! Long velvet vests! Brocade blouses! Fancy metal trinket boxes!
… basically we all shopped there and hole-in-the-wall import stores for our gauzy scarves and skirts, incense, belled anklets and belts, and cheap silver jewelry. I miss those days.
Did I covet this in the 90s? Of course I did.
Beautiful you will love it!
... and another thing about 90s goths and wardrobe ingenuity
We were devoted shoppers of those weird tiny import shops that were always in the 4 block area that also had the used bookstore, Tower Records, a comic shop, and a 2nd hand clothing store. The tiny import shop was a source of incense, essential oils for our perfumes, cheap silver (or silver-plated) jewelry, gauzy scarves, flowing gauzy skirts with interesting embroidery (and sometimes little mirrors along the hems!), and if you were really lucky, rayon velvet dresses that buttoned up the front. I had one of those dresses, bought when I had a little extra money. I wore that thing to death. Over lace & cotton petticoats I made from thrift store curtains and tablecloths. Unbuttoned to the waist to show the layers of gauzy skirts. With thrift store belts and silver chains. ... I miss that type of store.
Items found while packing: a promotional wall piece from a local movie theater. Yes, that’s going on a wall at the new house.
The copy of Dracula I used to carry around in my coffin purse. Embrace your cliches, peeps. Embrace the so hard that they squeak.
