THE VESTIGE - DRAGONBORN
Many believe, the Dragonborn found out about their heritage after battling a dragon to save Whiterun.
In fact everyone believed it. They assumed their talent with magic and ancient languages was from growing up in the academic sphere.
Both assumptions were completely and utterly wrong. The Dragonborn found out about their heritage and power granted to them by Akatosh, long before the 4th Era.
They found out about their heritage long before Alduin returned, before the Oblivion Crisis, and before the Tribunal Temple fell.
They found out long ago, when they went by a different moniker. A different title for a different age.
The Dragonborn's first title was The Vestige.
Almost a thousand years ago, when the Three Banners War waged. The Vestige discovered who they were in Elsweyr.
When they accompanied Abnur Tharn on a quest to stop the war, only to release Dragons who had been locked away.
No, no one knew of this. It was a secret they kept dear. Few alive knew of the truth, and even then 'alive' was a loose term.
Were dremora ever really alive?
So when Cultists came to attack them, claiming they were the 'false dragonborn' they felt an anger that hadn't surfaced for a very long time. Perhaps not since Mannimarco dared to sacrifice their soul.
After all the trials and tribulations they had been through, someone wants to claim they were a false dragonborn?
They made their way to Solsthiem, a lonely island they had not been to for a few hundred years. Looking for answers, and not giving up until they found some. They did indeed find answers, their face morphing into a smirk when they realized another Daedric Prince was impeding their way, that would simply not do.
Hermaeus Mora was surprised and extremely alarmed when he felt and saw The Vestige enter his realm. He wanted to assume it was a coincidence, but the second the Thu'um left their throat, Herma Mora second guessed himself for the very first time.
Miraak was surprised to run into another Dragonborn, even more surprised to find out they were far older than they looked. He also appreciated escaping Apocrypha with their aid in one piece.
I love that with all the dialogue lines the Skyrim guards have it makes it sound like they have like entire classes that the guards go through.
Because they know which weapons are daedric artifacts and can tell which skills you're well versed in.
So my HC is that guards have a few classes they go through before actually being guards.
Necromancer Vampire Vestige: "Wait, so I fought Molag Bal and got my soul back but I'm still a vampire??? How tf does this work????"
*dies*
*everyone sad and crying*
*Vestige comes back in a dramatic light show*
Vestige: "Oh, so I guess I just own my soul now? Like I can just choose to come back? That's fricken awesome!!"
*immediately starts fighting more Daedric Princes for funsies*
Mannimarco: "Wtf? They accidentally became immortal and master of their soul???? That's not fucking fair!"
Molag Bal: "Well, life's not fair, Mannimarco. That's why you're here and they're still out there causing trouble for literally everyone involved."
Look I made the post about the Vestige falling in love with Elam's voice.
HOWEVER
I think Elam was the first one to really take an interest.
Some of what he says, and how he says it in the assassin quests in the Dark Brotherhood chapter make me think he was ATTEMPTING to hit on or compliment the Vestige.
ALSO
He mentions that Egg and Hammer place repeatedly in Blackwood. Obviously being much more upfront, at least in his opinion.
UNFORTUNATELY
We all know the Vestige is a bit dense at times and probably never catches it at all.
The Vestige walks away from Elam and is like, "Damn this guy really likes the Egg and Hammer place."
Elam the TRAINED ASSASSIN hears them and just face palms.
Razum-Dar: "Tell me five-claw, how much trouble are we in? Be honest with old Raz."
Vestige: "Three Daedric Princes are trying to take control of the Crystal Tower." They said with a straight face.
Raz: "Too much honesty is never a good thing!"
Vestige: "YOU asked ME??!!!"
Raz: "But THREE OF THEM????!!!"
Vestige: "I've already dealt with one, THREE is a new challenge to be honest."
Raz: "What is WRONG with you????!" He says half jokingly.
Vestige: "YOU decided to be friends with me."
The Vestige after defeating Molag Bal and never dealing with their trauma: "I'm gonna join the Dark Brotherhood, it'll be interesting and fun possibly..."
*hears Elam Drals voice*
"Damn, definitely working here for a while."
Vestige HC (The Elder Scrolls Online)
I have two main Vestige OCs. One is a Bosmer Warden, and another is a Khajiiti Necromancer Werwolf.
The Vestige originally wanted to be a Bard, until their soul was ripped out by Mannimarco
They only ask clarifying questions because they have some sort of attention type disorder, or perhaps they get distracted extremely easily. (Like in Elsweyr when you are speaking to Tharn and the Vestige is like, "Anequina was taken over?!!" And Tharn whose used to this is like, "one thing at a time, rn we need to...")
The Vestige never really dealt with the traumas of Coldharbour
Leading them to a life of constant change and impulsive ideas, not all of them good
Like joining the Dark Brotherhood for a while
And possibly the Thieves Guild
The Vestige despises House Telvanni, just on principle
They'll work work Divayth Fyr here and there, and Revus Demnevanni, but everyone else is on their shit list
