Winter Solstice 2021
Winter reached out with her icy hands
And took ahold of my heart
“Give me your bones, for me to freeze,
Give me your hands and feet,
And your skin to bite and pierce,
Then my collection’s complete”
“But Winter,” I ask in return,
“Why do you reach first for my heart?”
“My dear, to know if you have ought to give”
And with that she shuddered and fled
Shrinking from the warmth of courage,
Of victories won, resilience too,
And not the least of all love unfinished
So from the shadows she waits and covets
Knowing I’ll be with her all the winter long
