When people say they like an essay I shared, or when they tell me I’m a good writer, It really fills my heart with all the dopamine a cocaine princess would want. But after that wears off, I’m kind of left wondering “but why? I’m just writing about myself.” . It’s taken a minute to realize that sharing my own story is a skill. And it’s not a skill I take for granted. And now I’m taking this writing show on the road, to help other female facing brands tell their own story, in a way that‘s creative and holds their audience at the center. . Extraordinary can be simple. ___ This week someone at my Paid to Be Creative workshop asked my team "What if I'm, honestly, more average? I don't have the big personality Hilary does. I'm not sure if I can really run a business". ___ Extraordinary is a one-woman graphic design shop created during nap times and school days with three kids when you're a single mom. ___ Unique is a fine artist introvert, holed up in a studio, using social media to speak to tens of thousands without being depleted in saying a word. ___ Outlandish is a women succeeding in a man's industry, running a construction office in your small town. ___ Counter-cultural is proving you don't need a traditional MBA to make it as a CEO. ___ It has nothing to do with red lipstick, dance parties in front of thousands, shining on camera. It's about finding what comes easy to you [as those do to me] + having the courage to do them more. ___ It's making space for your own garden bloom, on a path or in a way your parents or society never told you about. ___ It's a girl deferring grad school to audition, booking a Broadway tour + flying to New York crying the whole flight, then launching a styling business with no background + turning it into a million-dollar company with a dozen employees. ___ But that's only my story.
