look. you probably get your opinions hand-delivered, hot from the su crit youtube & tumblr presses, so nothing i say is really going to matter here. i accept that. we can disagree. but i did make an entire video going over white diamond’s character and how gem society works. which is uh. not exactly how you put it. 

every gem within that system is expected to stay within the strict roles of homeworld. including the diamonds themselves! everyone’s roles exist to perpetuate the system and create more gems - not just the lower classes.

remember the scenes in the extraction chambers? the sauna and bath? those weren’t there for relaxation. they’re there to collect the essence of the diamonds, which is then used to create more gems. the diamonds are always working towards that collective goal. as pearl basically confirms, they don’t have weekends or off-days. they live for their purpose. same as all gems.

and. like. they’re literally a parasitic species. they can’t reproduce without taking what already exists in the universe. they don’t care about life on other planets, that is true... but they don’t seek out killing them, either. they don’t think about it. that’s just the “byproduct” of their invasion, to them. they take those resources to create gemkind, and they just... don’t care how that impacts the planet.

once new gems have emerged, that kindergarten is out of sight, out of mind.

and that’s bad! it’s bad for everyone who isn’t gemkind or a fan of the system, yes. it’s very bad - that’s why homeworld needed to change! 

but if that’s the status quo of your society, you’re a parasitic species and that’s how you create life, you’re indifferent to the life on those planets because you prioritize your own species (as you see it), and you consider yourself someone who exists only for your duty (the perpetuation of gemkind), same as everyone else, then... that’s pretty far from being “genocidal”. 

it’s like... a “who, you? i’m a predator species. i don’t care as long as i get my food & materials to build a nest” attitude. not a “i’m gonna deliberately set out to kill you, because i hate you/your group” attitude.

Munchausen's by Proxy. Shes a narcissist who wants to feel needed so she poisons her children so they'll rely on her to be a caretaker.

Oh yeah, this I know. Even so, from what I’ve read, it’s rare for MBP to result in the child’s death. I think something like less than 10% actually result in death. But Adora’s case seems to be especially severe. Marian was an accident, if we go by the diary entry, but (in my opinion) something about having crossed the line with Marian must have let a few screws loose. She fed Amma enough poison so as to have the girl be immune by age 13. The first time she is able to connect with Camille on anything resembling an emotional level is when she’s purposefully giving Camille enough rat poison, horse tranqs, ipecac, and antibiotics to kill her. 

When I wrote this post I was also thinking about Camille’s lines in the book re: pain as intimacy. Reading the scenes between Camille and Adora in the book, and watching the scenes between Camille and Adora, and Adora and Amma in the miniseries, to me it comes off as getting off on being needed but also getting off on her daughters being in physical agony that she both caused and has the power to take away. Sort of like how some budding serial killers get off on hurting small animals so that they can nurse them back to health. It’s not just a compulsive need to feel needed but a need to exercise full control over other people as well as a need to have something tangible onto which she can exorcise all hurt, anger, guilt, shame, horror of her own traumatic upbringing. The thing about narcissists and relationships is that for all intents and purposes, other people are toys to them. Considering that, one could compare Adora’s abuse of her children to that of a traumatized child reenacting the scenes of their abuse using their Barbies or baby dolls. 

Or, to put it another way: Camille cuts herself. Amma commits murder. And Adora has her daughter-dolls.

Okay I thought I was the only one who thought the same about the armpit hair but like there's this gif of Jimin back when he had the tangerine hair and not only is he sweaty af but hes wearing a jersey, and he raises his arms up in the air and you can see the hair on his underarms and IDK but it's honestly kind of hot AND I CANT EXPLAIN WHY

I s2g the sexism and double standards in this fandom never cease to amaze in the most horrible way. You have people whining and complaining about New Maggie and how she's "turning into Negan" or that she "went too far" in killing Gregory wHEN HE TRIED TO KILL HER MULTIPLE TIMES, THIS TIME TWICE IN ONE EPISODE, AND HER BABY AND SHE CLEARLY STATED THAT SHE DIDN'T ENJOY DOING IT BUT IT HAD TO BE DONE

I said it before and I’ll say it again, comparing Maggie to the man who bashed in the head of her husband in front of her while she was sick and pregnant is a low blow. There’s no correlation with Negan and Maggie. Not even a little bit.

It has nothing to do with the Negan fans who love and enjoy his character, I truly don’t have a problem with that, of course not, it’s simply those few who make that awful comparison (I haven’t seen much of it thank god). It’s an unfair judgement.

Maggie executed someone who tried to murder her several times and threw his own people under the bus on multiple occasions. Definitely the same

Honestly, if it were pretty much any other milquetoast, non-black Top-40s musician, I might be willing to give them the benefit of doubt. I might be able to think, “That’s a problematic lyric they didn’t really think through,” but not necessarily think they meant to make it about slavery.

However, because this is Taylor Swift, the woman who plans things so precisely that she painted her nails the exact same shade of green as Spotify to take a dig at them, I have to assume the reference was intentional.

Taylor Swift just doesn’t allow for the benefit of the doubt.
