Alot of older teachers are actually comically evil I think
Like why are you so pressed against me listening to music while working. I don't get distracted by it and the noise actually helps me work. But apparently since other kids are distracted I'm not allowed to even with headphones since "it won't be fair"
Like actually it WILL be fair because not only does it let me work more efficiently but also middle schoolers are mature enough to understand that people do work differently like the only one being unfair is you for not letting me work to my full potential buddy 💔
Just now seeing this but-
As an education major. You are Absolutely correct actually!
Good teachers understand the concept of Differentiation- ie, adapting the content/process/product/learning environment to suit the needs of all students. I personally have an accommodation to wear headphones during class, bcs of documented sensory issues, but most good teachers would allow them during independent work REGARDLESS if they know a student needs them!
“Fairness” isnt about giving everyone the same treatment, but about treating everyone in a way that is appropriate to their circumstances. This is a core element of teaching, and its been drilled into me throughout my entire training as an educator- the fact that some teachers still fail to grasp this is so so frustrating, but unfortunately very common, especially in middle/highschool (seriously why do all secondary teachers have a stick up their butt??)
So as a teacher, it does make me really sad that your teacher is treating you this way, but unfortunately it’s not surprising. It’s a good reminder to us teachers to be mindful of all our students’ circumstances and not use a cookie-cutter approach to classroom management! What works for one student wont work for all.
I’m sorry youre dealing with that, darling, and I hope it gets better<3
