Where are the hot teachers at
Everyone always asking why I would ever give up dating to focus on my career… meanwhile I’ve been given more flowers from my students in my single year of teaching than all the guys I’ve dated combined.
I think I’m exactly where I want to be, actually.
One of the bright spots of summer school has been a junior who is just so delightful and pleasant.
Today was her last day, and she left me her dad’s phone number and said that he makes the best carnitas. 😂 She talked him up and mentioned all their horses and their second home in Mexico.
Girl. lol. I will miss her and her never ending ranking of scary movies, but I will not be reaching out to her papa.
Education fact of the day!
Have you heard the whole "learning styles" thing? The idea that certain people are biologically "visual learners" or "auditory learners," etc. Apparently around 90% of people believe it's true: Belief in learning styles myth may be detrimental.
Uh yeah turns out that's largely a myth Full article: The Myth of Learning Styles.
The best practice is to give students variety, which tends to spark their brains more.
There is some additional complexity with things like disability (obviously focusing on accessibility is vital) but in general, students learn best when given variety and being helped to engage, not when you give them the same type of thing over and over again.
Teaching Tuesday📚👨🏻🏫
I survived teaching my first substitute class!!😭😭 I spent one hour in the library (which also counts as sub work because I’m the substitute for R lol) and then had the pleasure to sub a 8th grade math class. Which sounded really really scary at first because the teacher I was covering for is one of the strictest we have (&I literally saw him on my way to work lol) but he didn’t leave any materials for me to work with so I had to freestyle it. The biggest trouble I had were 8 boys who decided to start a small brawl. I asked them how many hearses we were going to need once they were done fighting, which confused them so much that they kept quiet for the rest of the lesson. A win is a win! :‘) Even though I improvised the entire lesson it went pretty well (even some of the girls said so afterwards) and I actually had fun!
I need one of these
they're soooo cute!
This time last year, I would be up until 2am making archaeology presentations for uni.
This year, I’m still up at 2am making archaeology presentations, but this time I’m the teacher.
