probably my favorite ford x reader dynamic is where reader is very much the artistic type, very free spirited, very silly, but they assume that the guys who went from undergrad to PhD within his first year of college wouldn’t really be interested in them
meanwhile the poor man is absolutely crazy about them because he sees how brilliant they are, even if they’re not as academically advanced as he is, because they’re so lively and curious and kindhearted, they’re like a sun catcher
literally one of my faves too. it exists rent free in my daydreams.
this especially kind of goes for elementary!reader because they literally teach small children. they aren’t in the academic space of discussing theories regarding wormhole stability and the possibility of life on mars. they deal with very simple subjects, and it gets kind of difficult to get out of the kid zone after being in it for a while. like you haven’t been exercising your mind and it starts to get out of shape, so you have to get used to conversations of a more mentally-taxing caliber.
a lot of people also look down on teachers, and when i was in college, elementary ed majors were the butts of many jokes. granted, a lot of them kind of earned us our reputation by complaining about any work above the level of a first grader in classes with other education majors… but there is that saying, “those who can’t do, teach” and about how teachers take that job because of how seemingly easy the degree is (even though i could be making WAY more money doing a trade that didn’t require a 4 year degree)
anyway ignore my rant. all that just ties into the belief that others kind of look down on us, and the assumption that a guy with 12 PhDs might not take a teacher of small children very seriously
i plan on doing other fics related to reader being a teacher in gravity falls (unrelated to elementary, my dear) and playing with this more in my formal writing instead of just my private OC drabbles :3

Ford wasn’t sure how he felt. Until Fiddleford had commented on it, he hadn’t really considered you as a possible romantic partner.
Sure, you were pretty, and you made him laugh, and you had a lot to say about Neil that he could probably use as comeback material if the guy ever gave him trouble again, and he’d been disappointed when class had been cancelled last Thursday since he wouldn’t see you, and you smelled nice…
Alright, maybe he was kind of hoping—or at least wishing—for a little more than casual friendship with you. It just… might be nice to see you more frequently, and maybe to hold your hand and stuff.

“You know,” you smiled, drawing his attention again and hoping to lighten the mood, “once, the kids asked me if I was older or younger than my mentor teacher.”
He laughed hesitantly, raising his eyebrows. “Seriously? How old is she?”
“Sixty-something, probably.”
Stanford laughed even more, leaning back in his seat and shaking his head. “Well… I’m certain that’s due only to their lack of a concept of age. You certainly don’t look it.”
Seeming to realize that he had made a comment on your appearance—he seemed to find it to be some sort of taboo to even acknowledge that you looked any particular way at all, as if he should perceive you as some faceless, featureless mass—he tensed and began to stutter.
“I, uh— Not that you— I, well, I didn’t mean—”
You waved your hands in front of him and shook your head, laughing softly. “Hey, it’s okay, Stanford. I get what you mean. You… really don’t have to keep walking on nails around me.”
*Y/n casually calls Ford a butthead for being arrogant in Elementary* (as they should)
Ford: No one’s called me a butthead since the seventh grade.
Y/n: Maybe not to your face.
LOOL i love that because it would totally fit for Elementary!Reader. Using very “childish” insults to avoid expletives cause they spend most of their time teaching kids, or talking about teaching kids
Me personally, I really do be calling people butts and poopie heads. And STINKY. Cause I reworked my vocabulary to avoid anything even slightly inappropriate for the bebes
hi folks, since it is taking me so long to work on it and it’s been a while since i got any full pieces out to you, i figured i’d give a very small snippet from the intro of ch 4. enjoy!!! or don’t, i’m not the boss of you
Teeth brushed, freshly showered, with a clean pair of underwear on and nothing else, Ford lay on his back, hands folded over his stomach as he stared up at the ceiling.
He couldn’t wrap his mind around his strange peer who shared his elementary chemistry and physics class. You liked rocks and vintage books, you were scared of sincerity, and you took everything with such grace. You hadn’t even flinched when he’d shown you Noodles for the first time; had just gotten this awestruck look on your face and gotten down to his level.
Ford had watched you. He found himself doing that a lot, lately. Too much probably. You’d looked so beautiful, lips parted and eyes flitting back and forth as you looked at the rat with an inquisitive sense of wonder.
When you had asked to see his hand, he’d frozen. Had he been a normal man, he would have just reached across the table and watched as you examined it, reveling in the way your fingers felt against his skin. Instead, he kept them firmly under the table, safe from your discerning gaze.
He kept waiting for the other shoe to drop. You had been eager to accept Noodles, but they were a cute little rat. It wasn’t quite so endearing when it came to a grown man with a deformity.
Time and again, his hands had ruined his chances at forming real connections. Just when he thought he was so close, they would get that look on their face. First the puzzlement, eyes scanning over his fingers. Then realization. Then the disgust, the recoiling. Drawing away from him, physically and mentally, until he was left alone again.
He felt a wretched sense of anticipation. One day, you would see it. And then would come the cruelty. It should make the opinion he’d formed of the person crumble and no longer matter. If they’re the type to make such a snap judgement based on a superficial attribute, they weren’t the kind of person he wanted to hang around.
Part of him still sought their approval though. Hoped and prayed for acceptance; that this time, things would be different. Even when the inevitable disgust showed on their faces, he had the urge to barter, as if he could talk them out of their revulsion.
