OKAY FINE you've convinced me, I've made him a Letterboxd.

These are arranged in chronological order of release, by year. A couple of them are very old, but I think those would have been late night re-runs that Ford would have stayed up to watch when he could get away with it.

I'm starting with what were very likely movies he saw in childhood, up to early adulthood:

This takes us to around 1970, so I think he would have been about college age at this point. I doubt he had time to watch much during this period, so I only have a couple for it but I expect he rewatched the others if they were showing locally, plus:

Strongly believe he was a BIG fan of Forbin.

Then we move to his pre-portal time in GF, which includes hits such as:

And then of course, he goes into the portal. I think that upon his return, Ford would have been eager to hoover up whatever movies he missed while he was away. But I also think he'd be a period snob. I can't see him enjoying 'modern' movies too much, bar a few very specific exceptions.

So, his post-portal catch up favourites might look something like:

And then we tip into much more modern territory. Ford would hold a few newer flicks in his heart, but they're the only exceptions:

There you have it! That's what I think he'd be into throughout the years. I'm probably missing several but these were the main ones to come to mind. I see him as more of a creature-feature/occultist fan than a slasher guy, so several of the bigger movies of the periods are omitted for that reason.

he built a career on identifying and documenting anomalous beings but he still tries to hide his abnormalities. he loves things that aren’t usual but he puts his hands in his pockets and behind his back and prays no one notices.

Stan coming to you before the twins get there for the summer and asking if you know anything about baby-proofing a house.

You get him set up with cabinet locks, outlet covers, garbage-can covers, bolting furniture down so it can’t be turned over, the whole nine yards.

When it’s finished, you stand there with your hands on your hips, looking out at a job well done. You look over at him and ask, “How old are your niece and nephew, anyway?”

“They’re, uh… they’re twelve.”

imagine one of the kids asking ford for help with a video game level and he’s like “oh, i can give it a go, sure.” and just does absolutely terrible at it.

he sits there for a second holding the controller, totally baffled. he wasn’t good at something on the first try? the kids are like “oh that’s alright, we can keep tryin—”

ford’s already sitting forward in his chair about to lock in. they could not PRY that game from his fingers.

he has to get used to the feel of the controller, learn the controls, etc. but once he does…

the kids don’t get it back for several hours. they watch him beat the game

Okay but I think… Ford was pretty fit pre-mental breakdown.

I don’t think he had much of a gut, and was pretty slim. Obviously, he put on a bit of weight during college, but who doesn’t?

(I also think his body in the college pic from TBoB may have just been an oversight since it had been years since they’d written the show/Journal 3 and added those details, and he was still relatively slim here at the end of college in the show)

But when he was in Gravity Falls, he was constantly hiking around, chasing various anomalies

He even states in Journal 3 that he had a rigorous daily physical (and mental) workout, despite having hated physical activity when he was younger.

It sounds like he ends up approaching exercise with the same rigor he does his studies, namely because it is a means to further his research. He can’t do half of what he does if he isn’t in peak physical shape to keep up with the anomalies and go on field research trips. Based on his words there, I think it’s safe to assume.

And he says that a few months before the falling out with Bill.

So when his life falls apart, he stops exercising and starts eating junk (as one does).

And he puts on some weight, which leads to his body in this picture

He also had no control over whatever Bill was shoveling into his mouth when he possessed him, and Bill would ignore body cues that told him he was overeating. He was just tossing shit down Ford’s throat with no care for how it would affect him when he woke up (and actually hoping it would be something that hurt him)

So he probably contributed a LOT, in ways other than just by totally betraying Ford, taking advantage of him, and causing a catastrophic meltdown

Ford having a very rough day and all he wants to do is be held by you, so he gets home and finds that you’re in the shower. Rather than waiting for you to finish he, without hesitating in the slightest, just goes into the bathroom and steps into the shower fully-clothed and hugs you to him
