Thank you to everyone who took time to submit an application. I didn’t expect this group to receive this much love and I was thrilled to see that the ATLA fandom is still alive and thriving! This acceptance process called for some very, very tough decisions. Everyone’s applications were extremely well-written and featured unique interpretations of the characters. I genuinely had so much fun reading through your creative ideas. Listed below the “keep reading” tab are our accepted members.
For everyone who has been accepted, please send the main your new character account within the next 24 hours and follow the other directions listed on the checklist.
For those of you who missed our first acceptance, our submit is open for more applications! We still have plenty of open characters remaining (open characters page will be updated within the next hour). The next acceptance date will take place 48 hours after the first application is received. 24-hour reservation requests for specific characters will be accepted off-anon only.
Congratulations Sophie! You have been accepted for the role of Aang (FC: Darren Chen). I loved your descriptions of Aang’s laid-back personality and his desire to finish living out his childhood, and how these things may get in the way of his responsibilities as the Avatar. It was easy to step up to do the job when Ozai was trying to exterminate an entire nation--but what about now, when the threat might not seem so dire? I’m extremely excited to see how the fallout of the war and his immaturity (despite technically being over a hundred years old) will catch up with your Aang!
Congratulations Sarah! You have been accepted for the role of Chan (FC: Xiao Zhan). I was so excited to read through your application and see that Chan was much more than just a bad guy™. After reading about your descriptions of his childhood and family life, I feel like I know him as well as I know some of the more main characters from the show. Your future plots section shows that you’ve thought closely about potential plots with almost every character in the group and I can’t wait to see all those ideas played out on the dash! Your inclusion of Chan’s Hogwarts house also made me giggle hehe.
Congratulations Kora! You have been accepted for the role of Katara (FC: Fivel Stewart tentatively; I know she wasn’t your top choice, but since Sokka’s mun put down Booboo Stewart as her top choice I think the sibling pair would work great! We can talk about this more later). I loved your thorough expansion of Katara’s past, as well as your acknowledgement of her faults. I especially appreciated how you touched on moments on the show when Katara was presented to be the hero but those moments simultaneously demonstrated how she could be stubborn, hot-headed, and impulsive. I’m sure she’ll continue to be the nagging mom on the dash, but I also can’t wait to see her darker moments explored on the dash!
Congratulations Candace! You have been accepted for the role of Ming (FC: Brianne Tju). You put so much thought and details into Ming’s family background, I loved it! And her dilemma about her morals and identity crisis as someone who always felt stuck between two nations was so well-explained in your application as well. I was especially excited to see you mention things in your future plots section that showed that you were thinking ahead for long-term plots already! I can’t wait to see all of those things played out on the dash.
Congratulations Michelle! You have been accepted for the role of Sokka (FC: Booboo Stewart tentatively; feel free to change this after talking with Kora, Katara’s mun). You’ve been one of this rp’s earliest followers, so I was super excited to see your application make it into our first acceptances! Your application embodied Sokka’s character so well even just in the bio section--the flippant sarcasm and seemingly light-hearted tone when talking about serious personal topic was just so Sokka. It’s clear that you have a great understanding of Sokka’s character during the show and have exciting ideas of how he’ll grow in this group without being reinvented into a whole new person.
Congratulations Rina! You have been accepted for the role of Suki (FC: Myoui Mina). I loved how you developed Suki’s family background. That is absolutely what I meant when I told people “everything not mentioned on the show or skeletons is fair game” for writers to get creative. You really captured Suki’s confusion and sense of being lost while still showing her to be a confident, independent, and fierce woman. I was also excited to see that almost all of your future plot ideas had some sort of contingency like “I could see X happening but we’ll see what actually happens when we rp.” This really embodies the spirit I’ve been envisioning for this group!
Congratulations Bridget! You have been accepted for the role of Zuko (FC: Kwak Dong Yeon). You were the first person to submit an application and you certainly set the bar high! I loved how you explored so many of Zuko’s inner-conflicts. You drew from the show while putting in your own creative twists; plots continued from the show felt natural just as much as the new plots you introduced. Your application especially stood out because you clearly aren’t afraid to put Zuko through some hard and troubling times. I can’t wait to see our favorite angsty boy on the dash!
This is an official announcement that Bridget, who plays Zuko and Kai in our group, has been added as a co-admin to Elements!
Bridget and I will be on equal standing in terms of decision-making for the group (including but not limited to application decisions, future plots, and administrative things). Discord conversations about your character and group-wide plots will now take place in three-way chats with Bridget included to make things easier for everyone!
We’ve officially been open for a week! Here are some quick updates, and I promise we’ll have less of these in the future as we get settled into our routines.
We will be having our first activity check this Thursday, June 18th. All weekly activity checks for the group will occur on Thursdays in the future. As stated in our guidelines, all characters who were in our first round of acceptances must have had at least 5 posts with character interactions since we’ve opened. If you are unable to meet this activity requirement for any reason at all but would like to remain in the group, please just let me know and we’ll work something out!
Today is the first day that members can apply for their second characters! (if you’ve been a part of the group since our opening). Please keep in mind that members are not guaranteed automatic acceptances for additional characters, especially if they feel too repetitive of other existing characters.
I’ve been pretty open about the fact that I’d be looking for a co-admin once the group was open and running smoothly. Now is that time! I will post more info and the application for the coadmin position later today. You will not have to be a part of the group already to send in an application. However, if you are a newcomer, you will be required to submit a character application along with your coadmin application.
Thank you all for a wonderful opening and extremely active first couple of days! I know we’ve all loved seeing our favorite characters come back to life on the dash. Everyone has blown me away with their enthusiasm and support for each other.
Here is a quick run-down for things that will be happening in the next couple of days:
Four more character skeletons will be released this weekend. Ty Lee and Sensu will be posted on Saturday, followed by June and On Ji on Sunday. I’ve linked these characters to their wiki pages in case you’re having trouble remembering them from their short moments on our screens!
Members will be able to apply for their second characters (including original characters) after a full week of activity. For those of us who were accepted during our first round of acceptances, that would be Tuesday, June 16. The application form for OCs will be the same as the regular application form, with the expectation that you’ll spend a bit more time building your character’s background story. Characters that were barely on the show (like On Ji, Qin Lee, and Ming) would be accepted as OCs.
Our first plot drop will be posted this coming Monday June 15 at 3 pm EST. It will be centered around Zuko’s first council meeting as Fire Lord and will take place one day after his coronation, our current event.
I am looking for a coadmin to help run Elements! Although I’d prefer someone who is already a part of the group, new folks are also welcome to apply. Please note that newcomers must also submit a character application along with their coadmin application.
Applications must be sent in through the submit here before this Saturday, June 20 at 9 pm EST. Links to google docs would also be accepted. Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns!
The co-admin will play an equal role as me in terms of sharing responsibilities and making decisions. Responsibilities we’d share would include:
Answering questions sent to the inbox (fc help, plot suggestions, general questions about the group, etc.)
Promoting the group by queuing posts on our promo blog
Reading through applications to determine acceptances (each application will be read by the both of us before a decision is made)
Writing new skeletons. Characters will be planned together, but will be divided to actually be written.
Creating graphics. I think whoever has better skills in this area should take over creating graphics for the group and tbh that probably won’t be me.
Plotting. This is the main reason why I am looking for a co-admin. I want to keep the group active and exciting for everyone, and I definitely would appreciate having someone to brainstorm with. A large part of this will be talking to members one-on-one and also actively paying attention to group-wide plotting conversations in order to form over-arching plots that are exciting and inclusive.
Application Form
Name:
Activity Level: Please rank your activity level on a scale of 1-10 (10 being the highest). For reference I would give myself a 7, maybe 8 on a good day.
Previous co-admining experience?: This is not a necessary qualification, but if you have links to rps you’ve admined before please drop them here!
Graphic design skills?: This is not a necessary qualification. I would just appreciate having someone who is better than I am at making things look pretty. Please link anything you’d like to share!
Plot ideas: Please describe at least one future plot idea you envision for the group. It doesn’t have to be super well-written (bullet points are fine!), but should show that you’ve given this some thought. Plot ideas don’t necessarily have to directly involve every single character.
Anything else?:
It’s time! I will now begin reading through all of the applications. Our first round of acceptances will be posted by tonight at 9 pm EST. I will not literally close the submit, but any applications submitted from this point on will be considered for our second round of acceptances.
We’ve officially received applications for five different characters! A huge thank you to those who submitted their applications before now to make this possible. I know it’s hard to get things done without a real tangible deadline, especially in these crazy times, so I truly appreciate it. Elements’ first acceptance will occur on Sunday, June 7. The submit will close at 6 pm est on this day and all acceptances will be announced by 9 pm.
Upon further consideration, I have decided not to post the full accepted applications. Instead, I will be announcing all acceptances in one post with short personalized notes. Accepted members will be expected to post their applications or a newly written bios once their character accounts are set up. Feedback for applicants who are not accepted will also be available upon request.
As mentioned in several of my past answers, the submit will re-open immediately after our first acceptances, so anyone will be welcome to re-apply for our remaining open skeletons. Don’t worry, you won’t be late to the game. All acceptances after our first round will have a quick turnaround time of 48 hours.
Thank you again to all of you! I look forward to reading all of your wonderful applications.
