I know elephant 6 on tumblr is kinda dead but i wanted to talk about this, major organ and the adding machine is a really cool album that also has a really cool short film however even cooler is the bonus features of the short films dvd.

in this collection is a lot of interesting elephant 6 live videos and archival footage including apples in stereo cutting their first vinyl pressing, some cool live nmh, dixie blood moustaches short film oh hi, and major organ doing what a wonderful world live (i didnt even know they played live until i saw the dvd)

ive found only a couple of these features online that i will link here as well as the short film but i do recommend if you are able to get the album and dvd on bandcamp (like i did) or directly from orange twin and if you havent scoured the orange twin site i recommend it has a bunch of E6 stuff people dont talk about like jeffs field recordings

about the elephant 6 collective ! this is the first time I hear of it but NEUTRAL MILK HOTEL AND OF MONTREAL ?? I'm going to go deep dive this. seems like something i'll be highly interested in

AAAA!!! this makes me so unbelievably happy you can't even imagine. here are some resources in case you're interested:

website for the recently made elephant 6 documentary (a great jumping off point in my opinion, even if the documentary itself is a little formulaic, plus it features elijah wood)

fan-made neutral milk hotel website (contains lots of information of NMH and other bands that are part of the extended elephant 6 universe. also links to Jeff Mangum's anonymous 2001 experimental radio show. if your interested)

these are the most accessible sources of information, since unfortunately most of the rest is scattered across the internet in old websites.

my fave albums:

the olivia tremor control got fans to send in tape recordings narrating their dreams, and soundscapes to describe said dreams, and used the sounds in the production of their albums. like most elephant 6 music, all of their albums were produced entirely using tape recordings.

major organ and adding machine is more on the experimental side, and was a group project that got passed around the community on a single tape before being released. it was also made into a short film (available on youtube) that is noticeably low budget, but still very fun, and features jeff mangum dancing in a shrimp suit.
