A pair of elephant statues and a pair of tiger statues are installed on the left and right sides of the entrance to the place of prayer. Many were statues of elephants.

Elephants

I have the money box still,

But there were always others.

Two other to be precise

Or possibly three.

Writing the words brings a marble one to mind,

But I just remember the money box

The two woods carved together

And the mosaic ones.

I only know the moneybox now,

Living on my windowsill.

An echo from the time before.

Animals are writing my history

Each prompt showing it more

Like some unfolding mystery

Of the creatures gone before.

But those elephants all gifts 

Lived in the herd at Dad’s house

And then at home, at Mum’s

Where all of us still stay.

Except perhaps that’s where they went

A box in a room that wasn’t mine

But still I called it such.

Never decorated from my heart

Made to make me grow up

Until ornaments took over it all

And the future made its call.
