Eleran stared, completely transfixed by the glowing, eerie red growth of crystal that jutted out of the otherwise picturesque countryside of the Hinterlands. Swaying, soft grasses, butterflies, tiny wildflowers, they all seemed to fade in the presence of this unnatural formation.
She'd seen raw lyrium before, once, but never this much, this close. Even the Dalish were not unaware of the power it carried, of its inherent magical properties. A dwarven merchant had a sliver of it in his pack, and had shown the curious First what it looked like before it was processed for safe consumption.
It had gleamed and glittered like the brightest star, in the bluest of blues. Dangerous in its exquisite beauty, like glimpsing a sleeping high dragon. But how it sounded left its deepest impression on Eleran. It sang, the sound of the feeling of a cool drink of water on a hot summer's day. It quenched some unknown part of her being, and she felt brighter, faster, more alive as her own body sang its harmony.
But this, this cluster of jagged, crimson spines didn't so much sing as scream. A cacophonous, agonizing...
"It sings, yes. But the song is all wrong."
Cole's strange lilt pulls Eleran back to the present, allowing the jarring song to fade into the back of her attention. "Cole?"
"It will go away once we leave it." He whispers comfortingly, although it leaves Ellie more puzzled than soothed.
She'll try to speak to Solas as soon as she gets back to Skyhold. Surely her hahren would be able to help her decipher the tangles of feeling and noise that would haunt her dreams for nights to come.
