(Yandere Simon "Ghost" Riley x GenderNeutral!Reader)
(If you want some context you may want to check this out.)
You knew he was watching you, you were laid in bed, trying to sleep, back turned to the door, you had heard footsteps approaching your "bedroom", and then silence, he had a habit of just standing there and watching you ever since he took you from your home.
Simon Riley, An odd kidnapper he was, when thinking of being kidnapped before, you always just expected to be tortured by some serial killer maniac you had possibly wronged, but no.. he was just a client you happened to see back at the grocery store once a week or so.. And he hadn't tortured you so far, so a win is a win, I guess.
He wasn't "cruel" by kidnapper standards (as much as it weirded you out to think something so absurd) but he still kidnapped you, he treated you like a roommate yet you still couldn't shake the nervousness that came whenever he came around you.
And the creepiest thing he did? Watch you, you would just be walking around his flat, turn a corner and boom, you are met with his gaze, with him standing at the end of the hallway just staring, you were suprised you hadn't gotten a heart attack yet with the way you've felt your heart stop so many times over this.
Watching something on the telly? Turn your head around and he's watching you by the living room door. Brushing your teeth? Turn your gaze away and you see him in the background through the mirror, just watching, and the examples went on.
He acted like you were unreasonable about it too! Breaking his gaze away and letting out a sigh.
"Bloody hell.. calm down." He would say after seeing you flinch, but could you really be blamed? Anyone would flinch at randomly catching a big masked man just standing and staring right at them.
And each time, he would then mutter out,
"..I didn't mean to.. sorry." Barely loud enough for you to hear.
Which brought you to now, you were trying to stay still, pretend you were asleep so he'd eventually go away, pray that maybe you could actually fall asleep and everything would be fine—
His voice came out a little rougher than usual, yet also oddly gentle? It sounded like he had maybe just woken up.
You slowly turned to look back at him, sure enough he was just standing at the doorway, it was dark, the only thing that allowed you to make out his silhouette was the moonlight coming from the window and that's when you noticed it.
He wasn't wearing his mask, in all of this time with him, you had never really seen his face before.
Sure, you caught a glimpse here and there, earlier in the morning where you caught a glance as you watched him shave his small stubble that had grown in, or maybe when you passed by his room while he napped and saw the back of his head. (For a while you even wondered if he slept with the mask on!)
But those were more or so accidental, he had never willingly took off the mask around you and you didn't push it either, you still didn't know him all that much and last thing you wanted was to find out what could happen if you pushed his buttons.
You watched as he then stepped forward and sat down by the edge of your bed, the mattress dipping slightly with his weight for a moment.
He stayed silent, he brought his hands together, he almost looked shy, it was kinda of weird.
"..You couln't sleep..?" You finally spoke up, whispering to him, you turned to lay on your back, looking up at him, it was still dark but you could make out his face slightly better.
"..I have a lot of nightmares." He whispered, his voice was soft, tired.
You did remember him mentioning he had worked for the millitary and was forced to retire, but he never went into details, you could only imagine what he had seen.. or done and perhaps it was better only to imagine or else you may also begin to struggle to sleep at night.
You didn't know what to say. He almost looked pitiful, it made you feel a little bad for him, after something thinking you finally spoke up again.
"..Do you.. do you wanna talk about it?" You asked, making sure to keep your tone gentle, you were trying to sound friendly and maybe he would actually open up.
Simon stayed silent for a few moments, he looked hesitant, like he was contemplating if he should open up, you could see with the way he slightly rubbed his wrist.
"..I'm not normal, I'll never be." You found yourself surprised with how vulnerable he sounded.
"Sometimes I wonder, was I always just.. meant to be like this? Did I ever even have a chance to begin with?" He continued lowering his head, running his hand through his short hair, he sounded genuinely frustrated even so, his tone remained gentle.
"..Everytime I walk outside, I see everyone else, I feel like I just don't belong.. I.. I can barely even admit it but I do envy those civies.. who seem to live such carefree lives, I know I will never be as happy and as carefree as them.." He sighed.
Wow, just wow, you never had him open up to you this way, you felt speechless.. what did you even say to comfort him? You wouldn't consider yourself the worst at comforting people but you never invisioned yourself trying to comfort your captor.
".. That's not true.." You sat up on the bed, trying to find your words as you looked at him before looking down at your hands, taking a small breath you spoke up again.
"Nobody is born a certain away, we're all like.. empty books, ready to be written in.. and well.. just because your mid way through doesn't mean that the ending is strictly defined.. change is always a possibility." You knew you sounded a little awkward, still, you tried to be as comforting as you could, trying to spark some hope in him, you even felt a little embarrassed at the example, was it too corny? You hoped not.
You looked up at him and he looked at you which caused you to look away.
"...How do I know I can change..
how do I know I won't just end like him..?" The last part came out a little more quiet, you could only who this "him" was, you felt as if it wasn't the right moment to ask him something like that.
"I..." You didn't know how to answer that, you were just trying to comfort him, you weren't some qualified therapist!
"..I..um.. honestly? I don't know how to answer that, Simon." You looked up at him, both of you now mantaining eye contact.
"But I think that.. if anyone is willing to make an effort to change than it means there's always a chance to do so." You answered as truthfully as you could, before falling silent again.
He looked at you and you looked at him, despite how much you wanted to break eye contact, you didn't. And you honestly weren't too sure on why.
"..Thank you." He whispered and with that, he reached out and took your hand in his, he then looked away, looking down at your hand, you felt as his thumb brushed over your knuckles.
This was perhaps the most intimate moment you had ever shared with him, it made you feel so many different things it was almost overwhelming.
"..You don't have to agree to it if you don't want too by the way but.. can I.." You felt as his grip tighten on your hand ever so slightly, you could feel his nervousness though his touch.
You weren't too sure on why he'd ask it so suddenly and why you had agreed, perhaps it was the slight fear he may get upset if you said no, perhaps it was out of pity... You didn't know.
You just knew that he was now laying in bed with you, some very small distance between the two, you looked at him and looked away and you didn't even have to look at him to know he was doing the same.
You laid just like that, in some awkward uncomfortable silence, until he spoke up again.
"..Can I.. hold you? If you want too.. that is." He asked, he sounded both hesitant and even a little shy.
It was surprising really, who knew the big buff guy who used to be in the millitary and wore skull masks was this awkward about intimacy but you didn't question it.
"Um.. uh, sure.." You agreed, hesitantily so, turning your back to him so he could hold you.
You felt as he scooted closer slowly and placed his hand on your waist first and after he saw you didn't pull away from him, he then hesitantly wrapped his arms around you, spooning you.
Your body was tense for a moment but after seeing how he didn't try anything you eventually relaxed, how could you not? He was big and warm, an amazing combo for someone cuddling you.
"..I just want you to know what you said meant a lot to me, seriously.. I.. care a lot about you, I don't want you to be scared of me." He whispered in your ear, his warm breath made you shiver slightly.
"..I.. wants us to grow together. I want to change.. change for you." He then whispered, that was one of the sweetest things someone had said to you and it was coming from you captor out of all people.
Even so, you felt relaxed and slowly began to drift off...
As you woke up in the morning, you no longer felt him holding you, but the side he had slept in was still a little warm, looking at the nightstand you found a mug of coffee, still hot, just the way you liked it.
Picking it up, taking a sip.. hearing footsteps and looking at the doorway.
He didn't have his mask, so you could see his face way more clearly now, he was holding a tray in his hands, breakfast in bed, nothing fancy really, just some toast, you had known him to not be a man for big grand gestures.
Even so, this small act, made you wonder, before, you'd think back to the future with dread but this sudden development now left you with a new feeling, hope.
