Hey it's story time guys I'm here to tell you about the time I got stuck in the Art gallery basement.
When I was in grade 4 I was selected to go to a month long art class. After being there for the first few days it was every Saturday I had finally found my way around the gallery.
On the final day, we were told to go to the upper floor to find our clay sculptures to take home. Upon getting into the elevator with my two friends, one of them decided it was a great idea to simultaneously push all of the buttons. This caused the elevator to go down to the basement floor.
I was already freaking out, and getting out of the elevator and into the basement room made it worse. It was a very small room with a little hallway going down from one side. It was pretty dark (almost pitch black). We all got out and went through the door that led to the main room. When it closed, we checked it again and it had locked itself behind us, which wasn't exactly a good thing, as we didn't see any visible exits. I was starting to get scared and thought we would be stuck there forever (yes my 9y/o self had no control over fear) and started to walk down the hall away from everyone else. I ran into the wall and looked around the corner only to see a small crack in the wall. It was big enough to fit into, but once you were in you couldn't go back without really straining yourself and probably dislocating all of your bones. Everybody else wandered down the hallway over to me and I told them I was going to go through. They all just stood and watched as I squeezed through the wall.
Once I was on the other side, it became really bright. When I turned around I saw a staircase, not very wide. After we all got through we had to go up the stairs sideways and couldn't bend our knees or we would end up hitting the wall. At the top there was another hallway leading to the lobby. We ran out and back to class and never said a word to anyone but our friends and family.
Now, I don't know who had the brilliant idea to have an automatic locking door, or have emergency exits that can barely fit a nine year old. It was a strange place.
