something about rust that is fascinating to me is his attachment to objects. like he doesn't have very much but what he does have is sooooo telling. guy who drives the same truck for at least seventeen years and doesn't replace the broken taillight where his old friend and partner busted his fucking head trying to kill him in a parking lot. guy who keeps ahold of the same zippo lighter. guy who smokes the same brand of cigarettes for again at least seventeen years. guy who keeps a cross on his wall and apparently takes it down while he lives with his girlfriend but as soon as they break up he puts it back up. guy whos worn the same clothes for so long theyre visibly tattered and worn out. guy who kept the leather jacket he was shot in along with a half dozen other signifiers of a person he used to be. just so compelling.
