In my last post i was yapping about elias and salomé's relationship and how it was so problematic it is difficult to make it work if clarita was in the picture too. I went on a tangent exploring the reason behind this weird writing choice that I forgot the guy who wrote it was simply a babaero 🤦‍♀️

My proposed solution to fix the misogyny is to make elias question who does he really love cus salomé was someone he supposedly going to marry and clarita was someone he just met like 2 days ago and immediately fell for her cus of her kindness 😭

if i could i would make him question his relationship with ibarra gay-coded too (dedicated to the elibarra shippers)

Yeah its a LOT of love interests and drama but thats jose rizal for ya 🤷🏻‍♂️

Because of this I also understand if future retellings dont include salomé cus lets be real the poor girl has nothing on the plot and no real personality of her own 😔 plus we already got the not so love triangle nila ni ibarra so yeah thats a lot of love issues na

i also had non-sexist theories that explained why she wasn't that involved/was removed besides budget problems but that was me forgetting that rizal was a simply FREAKING BABAERO (again) 🤬

Elias x Maria Clara tickles me so much. It's a literal heaven and earth, star crossed lovers pairing. Maria Clara, the pure and virginal heroine, has a very human and flawed moment on the boat with Elias where it becomes very clear to the reader that she likes him! And she's flirting, even though Ibarra is right there! The sexual awakening! Crisostomo Ibarra the choice made for her vs Elias as the choice she makes for herself. And for Elias, it feels like this angel has descended from her heaven, and touching her, even just the slightest bit feels like it will corrupt her. And they both love Crisostomo Ibarra so much. They love him so much. This is wrong. They could never hurt him. They can't.
