It’s actually wild how normalized this kind of behavior still is.
When Ester Exposito responds “yo estoy negra jajajaja” in a joking, dismissive way, it’s not just “humor” it’s a reflection of how casually Blackness gets reduced to an aesthetic, a punchline, or a temporary identity that can be put on and taken off. And that context matters even more when she’s previously posted herself singing the n-word.
That’s the issue:!! You don’t get to engage with Black culture when it’s fun, trendy, or profitable, while also ignoring the history, violence, and discrimination tied to that same identity. Saying something like that as a white woman, especially after using a racial slur, comes off as deeply tone-deaf at best, and blatantly disrespectful at worst.
And then there’s Aron Piper’s original comment, which already plays into colorist language (“morenos”), so the whole exchange just reinforces how loosely people treat race in these spaces.
It’s not about being “too sensitive.” It’s about accountability. You can’t separate language from its history just because you’re laughing. Especially when you’ve already shown you’re comfortable crossing that line.
