“You’ve got to be shitting me, that’s our only way out!” Nick exclaimed as he threw his pistol down on the floor.

“Sure looks like it, unless you got some other ideas” Coach responded taking note of what lay beyond the door to the safe house.

Was this really it? The only way to the helicopter was across a bridge full of zombies and no guarantee that we could even pass over it on foot? This surely couldn’t be the end, you turned and looked into Ellis’ eyes as both of your minds raced. He was the one in the group you had become the closest to, you were both a similar age and you couldn’t help but fall for that southern drawl. It had only been 3 days since you met but with the whole world going to shit, you didn’t really have time to think over the logistics of falling for the man in front of you. He was sweet; always making sure you had enough ammo and food. He was funny: always telling stories about Keith. And most importantly he was hot: with a tiny waist and full biceps capable of decapitating infected with very little effort. Those same arms had held you the past two nights.

“How’r yew holdin’ up?” He asked tenderly tucking a piece of hair behind your ear.

“Not great after hearing that, if I’m being honest” You answered sincerely, moving your hand to his thigh.

“We’ll be alrigh’ yew know tha’ right? We’ve got each other and that's all tha’ matters. I’m not gonna let yew die out there, like that one time me an’ Keith though it would be a great idea tew-”

“Not the time Ellis, you can tell me all about Keith when we get on that chopper over the bridge.”

“Yew right.” He began gathering the supplies he needed starting with more shotgun shells.

The others had already accepted what was going to happen to us. There was no guarantee that any of us would make it out alive, let alone all of us. To believe that would be wishful thinking. You looked down at your own supplies, a simple handgun, rifle and kitana, not much but it had gotten you this far.Through everything.

From meeting the group while scrambling to get on top of the hotel roof and being left for dead. Through amusement parks, swamps and sugar mills. Against monstrosities you never could have dreamt up. Meeting another group of survivors and plenty of dead ones. Finding solace covered in the guts of people who once had families, long before any of this. Even managing, maybe, to find love out in the Georgian landscape, where no such thing should have existed. Who was now cocking his shotgun, for once not entirely sure if we could live through this.

“Alright if we’re going to do this we need to have each other's backs. If we can save someone we should.” Rochelle spoke earnestly standing next to the door, glancing around at the group in front of her.

Ellis turned to you speaking quietly so only you could hear. “We go down together or we don’ go down a’ all, alrigh’?” tilting his head slightly to the side, lips grazing the shell of your ear. You gripped your kitana tighter in your hands.

“You don't gotta worry about me Ellis”

“That’s ma gurl”

And as if right on cue, Rochelle opened the door. The five of you stepped out into the midday Louisiana sun, the sounds of the infected rattling around the frame of the bridge. It didn’t look possible, but as you turned to face the man next to you. You realised that maybe, just maybe, you had a fighting chance. Ever the pessimist, you still didn’t want to die with any regrets, so you pulled him off to the side as Nick, Rochelle and Coach all tried to come up with a rough idea of a plan.

“Ellis, I’d fucking hate myself if I didn’t do this before we died.” before he had any time to argue, you pulled him down into a kiss. It was all teeth and tongue from the moment it started. Hands wandering, gripping onto anything they could, being mindful of the weaponry attached to you two. Even though it had just been days, the kiss felt like something you had waited years for. You couldn’t help but wonder if this was the end of the two of you or just the means to start again.

Until it was rudely interrupted by the sound of someone clearing their throat.

The two of you slowly turned to face the rest of the group who had evidently been waiting on the two of you to finish up.

“Umm sorry guys, we can go” you spoke quickly, moving a bit further back from him.

“Fan-fucking-tastic, I was worried I was going to need to find bleach somewhere on the bridge.Now let’s go lovebirds I’ve got a chopper to catch.”

Hello anon, and I'd be delighted to and thank you for enjoying the work I put out! I don't have a clever quip to throw in this time so without further a-do, here are your head canons.

Nick

He's an asshole to everyone, but he's soft when it comes to you. Especially if you don't pick up on sarcasm like everyone else.

He'd never try to yell or raise his voice at you like he would with others too. Nick is patient and holds up on you when you start to lag behind

It's a surprising display of intimacy that has the others making eyes at him and looking smug. 'Didn't think you had it in ya, Nick'.

He smiles a little more, and tries to be romantic in spite of the setting.

It's the little things that make the world go 'round, and he's got a knack for doing them for you, intentionally or not.

Needed pills for something? He's got you covered, even if he thought he needed them more.

Instead of giving you your share of compliments and nick names, he'd point out your habits and say that they're cute and call you other names: 'I think it's really cute how you play with your hair when thinking about something' / 'Alright let's get out of here stinky'

Ellis

He is the sweetest guy.

He loves telling stories to you, and he always plays them up to try and make you laugh.

Ellis will take you sight seeing around Savannah, or try and take you out to a fancy date he's prepared(beer on the roof top)

He likes to show you off or brag that he has you as his S/O.

"Damn I'm so lucky to have you, y'know"

He will get sad if he's separated from you for too long, and hope that you're okay whenever you two get separated from each other for whatever reason.

He's a hugger, and will often reach his arms around to hug you from behind whenever he has the chance.

Says "I love you" a lot. Do not fight him on this because he'll just keep saying he loves you more or hit you with a "nuh-uh"

Nick gets tired of this whenever it happens.

Rochelle

She's the boss when it comes down to it, stubborn as a mule but if you're really against something she'll hear you out on it.

If Nick says some shit to you, she'll whip something witty right back at him that makes him either scoff or shuts him right up.

Rochelle beams at you whenever you save her from one of the special infected, hyping you up with that gorgeous smile of hers.

"Yep, that's mine right there", as you help her up.

She likes to bring you little gifts here and there, especially when you need them without ever asking for them out loud.

"Here, I thought you might need this", and she presses it into your hands with a small smile as she looks up into your eyes

She is likes to hold your hand as you two travel, or have your pinkies intertwined when you need to break away for a fight

She likes to press her back against yours, feeling safe that you've got hers when it comes down to it.

Rochelle thinks you're a lot cooler than you may let yourself believe

Coach

He's right behind you every step of the way, and will lift you up anyway he can. Except for literally, he might hurt his back if he tries to do that.

The two of you eat good, even for the apocalypse, he won't let you eat nothing trashy but also nothing that will put either one of you in a theoretical ER.

Will pull you off to the side if he sees that you're feeling down or are bummed out about something.

He's real good at talking with you about things

Absolutely loves giving you little kisses on the top of your head or your hands, anywhere he can really

His love language is words of affirmation(I am so sure on this)

Likes to praise you, congratulating you on good shots and a bit more lenient with you when you make bad ones.

Coach is endearing though, never the "ooh now personally I wouldn't have done that" kinda comments.

He likes to guide your hands when he steps behind you, "try it like this"

He likes to hold you close in his arms, and letting you listen to his heart as you two rest up.

"Everything's gon' be alright baby, I've got ya"

You're not a bother at all, I'm always excited to get a new letter in the mail. Here's a few headcanons on the gang having a crush on the newbie :)

Nick

He might've regarded that new guy as a little more than dead weight given that the group doesn't have the best experience when another is added in. He was so ready to shoot the guy the second he started showing symptoms of the Green Flu. However, in the passing days that he's gotten to fight along side the guy, he's finding himself softening up around him. Nick thinks that he finds him tolerable, nothing more and nothing less next to his other friends. Although, there's just something different about him than the others. Ellis gets on his nerves, Rochelle bumps heads with him whenever he hits anyone with his sarcasm, and Coach is just... Coach.

The new guy doesn't get flustered when he says something smart, he shoots him a grin and rolls with the punches, even offering something just as smart back to him. He's not shown up often, or enough to remember really, but it's just another thing that has him drawn in. When he notices this little development, he can't believe himself. The newbie will brush a hand along the fabric of his shoulder, pulling him out of his haze and watching as his cheeks tinge a shade darker.

"You alright, Nicholas?"

Shit.

The tease heats him up as he reloads his assault rifle, watching you carry on with Ellis and falling into step behind Rochelle as Coach watches the whole thing. He just looks at him, already knowing as Nick tries to fight off the smile creeping onto his face.

"What are you looking at?"

"Nothin' Nick"

Ellis

He was happy to find another soul lost out in this shit show of an apocalypse, waving the others over to come and meet him. Ellis just hoped that the new guy wouldn't turn out like the other one did in the Helicopter. He's quite the chatter box while the newbie doesn't seem to be a guy of many words. Before he launches into his usual ramblings, he pauses just in case the other doesn't like him running his mouth as he does. He's just surprised to find him listening, hanging on every word as they push through the muck and grime of zombies. It takes him back when the new guy nudges him, urges him to carry on when the others walk ahead to avoid another one of Ellis' Keith tales.

The best part is getting to hear him laugh, the way his eyes crinkle as he smiles just... it's just wow.

It makes him feel all light and giddy. When the new guy tells his stories in turn with his own, Ellis can't help but to ask questions rather than to tell him to quiet down some. When the new guy talks, he sets the mood real well, never a dull moment packed within his words. It could be about anything dull or not all that exciting, and Ellis would drink it up. He thinks that he's so cool, smart, and funny, and... shit, does he got a crush on him or something?

The apocalypse has made it real hard to find someone out there, and he doesn't want to mess it up by not knowing what to say or what to do. Nick just laughs as Rochelle punches his arm, trying to give the best advice she can as the conman tells him to just be cool. He isn't very subtle when trying to make his advances.

Rochelle

There's something about that new guy that just intrigues her. Sure there are other men in her life that happen to also have an air of mystery floating around them, but none happening to be more prominent than the addition of the rookie. She calls him rookie, and he doesn't seem to mind, even when she lingers in the back to chat with him. The first thing she does when she develops this little crush is to make sure that there isn't anyone else who's that close to him. It'd be awkward to try and make a move when he's got a fiance or partner(if she's still out there!) She teases him a little, invites him to have their playful banters with each other, typical stuff. Nick and Coach catch on before Ellis does as he wonders why she seems to be spending an awfully long time with the new guy.

When he does catch on, he'd try to tease Rochelle about it but she shuts him down real quick. She doesn't want anyone else to know before she tries to confess to you or make any moves. There's a right way to do it and there's a wrong way to do it, and at every opportunity, she's nervous to just outright ask. Nick urges her forward, to just get it over with because he's sick of her being puppy eyes at him and not doing anything about it.

"Jesus, if you keep waiting, the zombies will hurry up and take him!"

"Nick. I don't remember asking you for your opinion! And besides, there's no rush..."

"Uh-huh... riiiiiight, oh! Hey rookie!", he rolls his eyes, shaking his head as she spots him.

Coach

He's a bit older than the other survivors, so he's not wasting any time in making his point. As his adoration for the newbie dawns upon him, he knows that he should get it out of the way so that things don't feel awkward later down the road after working through it together. His gestures are more attentive, and his words are sweet as he tells them to him. It's heart warming to see him in action, at least it is to Roch and Ellis. Nick sees the PDA as 'sickening', but that's just Nick. Coach jokingly tries to offer him some advice on how to handle a gun that he's not too familiar with, and is pleasantly surprised when he takes him up on that offer. The new guy has him feeling years younger when he slides up into his arms for the example.

Chances are the rookie knows what he's doing, and Coach has seen him work it before. It's just nice not to be brushed off as the fat old guy who used to be in his prime back in his college days. He makes him feel as strong as he is wise, and that's probably why he got a crush on him in the first place. He hopes he's not being too forward or anything like that. It's the sort of nervousness that puts butterflies in his stomach, fluttering upward as he chuckles into a grin.

"What the hell am I gonna do with you?"

"For starters, we could go over there and loot that diner. I could KILL for a cheeseburger right about now"

He doesn't even know about the vice grip he has on his heart when he hears those words.

"Let's go get us a cheeseburger then!"
