I was never the princess, never the girl in the tiara. But I was more the girl who liked to get her hands dirty. I liked arts and crafts, and I really liked being creative. Creating is really where my heart is. When I was young, mom had this chest of dress-up clothes in our basement.  My sister and I would dress-up and act out shows. We’d write and perform our own musicals. I did love the Disney princess films. I remember Pocahontas and The Little Mermaid were two of my favorites.

I remember an incident about one of my crying scenes. In my first work, when I wasn’t really aware of what a camera is, when I was just at point zero. I had this crying scene and I’m all alone at the bus station, I am left all alone, suffering from great trouble, and I needed to cry. And at that time somehow I cried for help. So I’m crying and the director stopped and came up to me and said “Why are you laughing?”. I said “I’m not laughing!” Oh God, it had to be done again!

I play a lady called Anne Bonny who was a real pirate in the 1700s. I went to what they call “Pirate camp”, which was basically lots of training, boxing, to get us to a certain shape that the pirates would be. With the the ringings, the scurvy; and their starving at the same time. And so I’m looking like Iggy Pop- it’s sorta Iggy Pop and Madonna and I definitely chose Iggy Pop. I just love to be different people, it’s so exciting! I love the research that you get to do, every single addition is kind of every different era- or in the future. You just learn so much. Don’t take life too seriously, no one makes it out alive anyway.
